Adam, I graduated from Maranatha in its first student body (founded in 68) and received the first M.A. in 70. All three of my children graduated from there during the 90's (and are all in the ministry).

So I am more than a little prejudiced to side with those recommending the school. In addition to reasonable tuition, grants et al, and a required Bible core no matter WHAT major/minor you might opt for, it offers fine arts, music, Div. 3 athletics including football, work opportunities, ministry in 50+ area churches.

It is worth a look see.

If you're willing to travel a bit, the schools I posted, especially Clear Creek Baptist Bible college and Baptist College of Florida are probably more inexpensive than that. And these schools are strictly ministry related schools, like a seminary at the undergrad level. Boyce would be competitive in price.

Adam, they also have a toll-free # 1-800-MBBC-WIS. This can put you in touch with their financial aid office. The amount of grant is dependant on income, I think.

The best way to visit would be to go on a school day, so that you can see it in action. I would recommend things like attending chapel, a class or two, and eat in the dining hall to give you an idea of their student life.

Tom, I have never heard of those schools-probably because of my location. Do you have a link for them?

Thanks for the info Joy, I contacted them via email today asking for more information [IMG]

    Tom,
I will also look at these schools...I'll probably feel dumb after asking this but do you know the web addresses to these schools (though its probably as obvious as the MBBC one). Thanks!

Are these schools accredited by one of the major national associations? I would think if a person were spending $50,000 on a BA or BS, a recognized degree would be a "must".

I found my seminary (where I earned a D.Min) is NOT and when teaching at the local university, I was paid at a master's level rather than doctorate. And we're talking a lot of change in the difference.

Clear Creek, Boyce, and BCF are all accredited by regional accrediting agencies.

I would look at Mercer University's McAfee School of Theology on the Atlanta Campus. I attended there in the Fall of 1997 (before I had determined that the courtroom was to be my pullpit and the jury my congregation). The professors were great, the classes began with prayer, and the students were friendly.
Some will tell you this school is "liberal" but I found it to be very mainstream. A survey of the student body showed it to be pretty conservative. I will point out that the tution was astoundingly cheap! (A few thousand or less a year?). Good luck.

McAfee is a CBF related institution. This answers the question as to whether or not it is conservative. Their website says some encouraging things about finances, but the lack of aquality education still makes the school overpriced. I'd look elsewhere for a solid education.

I attended the school, its not just a website for me. These people who teach there are not just names to me. The professors believe in the adage: preach the Gospel. If necesarry, use words. They live it.
By the way, they are excellent scholars, and you can read their resumes online. All of them are highly qualified, and Alan Culpepper (who is dean and professor) is considered by many as the world's foremost authority on the book of John.

I know more about the school than the website David. I put that on there as a compliment and for Adam to check it out himself. And not every Mercer/McAfee person shares your view.
Speaking of Culpepper, I was interim at a church he pastored. As for his being the world's best scholar on John, do the names Leon Morris, Merrill Tenney, Gerald Borchert, C.H. Dodd, or I.H. Marshall not ring any bells?

FF, if you would choose to go to Maranatha, watch out for that Music Appreciation course which my wife teaches. She is a real tough teacher... :D

Tom, I know you and I have bantered about what the standards for recognized scholarship are, but wouldn't you agree that Culpepper is one of the very few internationally recognized (outside of evangelical scholarship) baptist scholars?
