Nobody in government is really poor. Most of our representatives are talented, highly educated men and women who could make a lot more money in private business. Do you think George Bush isn't rich?

Not having any government, which you seem to be arguing for, is something called anarchy. So, you can have a democratic form of government or some other kind. Are you saying we need another kind of government? If not they why not suggest ideas that will improve our form of government rather than tear it down?

Of course if we had anarchy we wouldn't have an army or war and that wopuld be good. However, we wouldn't have police or fire protection and that wouldn't be so good. On the other hand all the NRA types would get to really use their guns, often at least for a little while.

There are, in fact, many more highly educated and talented men and women working in private business generating a need for workers which is what fuels the economy. These are the people that own the jobs. The workers they need own the skills. They need each other. Capitalism is great! Some of those in government are completely out of touch with this process. They think they have the answers and they want control but aren't willing to take the risks. They may be well educated but they are ignorant! They live in a different world. They think the workers own the jobs. They think the workers are entitled to skills whether they have them or not. They think the government owns the people. They're wrong!

Friend, I call for something far from anarchy! My statement makes it clear that law enforcement - for the sake of justice - and the military - for the sake of national defense - are primary and essential services provided by government. People expect and need a framework of justice and security within which they can do their magic. The socialism that expands the role of government into every corner of our life will lead to anarchy when it collapses around us as no one is left producing any real goods or services but instead have become wards of the state demanding someone else care for them. We would do well to improve our system of justice to provide true - swift and fair - justice and restitution for victims and true - swift and fair - punishment for criminals of all venues.

I'm one of those "NRA types" and I will use my guns if it becomes necessary to defend myself, my family, my community, or my nation for that matter. I'm also one of those former-law enforcement and former-military types that's helped provide justice and defense for our country. I knew then and know now that government does these things on behalf of the citizens who have the first right to them. Now I have a different role in life and, hopefully, my services in the former will never be needed least we are really in serious trouble.

You do realize, of course, that there is middle ground between government providing for everyone's "needs" and anarchy.

    Don't you? :saint:

At least "providing for the common defense" is a true constitutional power of the government.

Stealing from one citizen to give to another is not.

Bailing out failing businesses is not.

Owning part of the business that's bailed out is not.

There is no end in sight.
