Bro. Japheth can you remind me what the bolded
    saying below means:
    (I've been a Baptist for 55-years so probably I
used to know, but forgot. I want the 89¢ answer*.)
    Thank you.

Soteriology: 5 Heads of Doctrine - Doctrines of Grace

    *
89¢ answer preclude two word sentences
and 17-point sermons. But surely everybody knows
    that by now?

5 Heads of Doctrine were formulated by the Synod of Dordrecht in 1619 by the Protestant World, Reformed, Lutheran, Anglican, Etc.

Representatives were sent from all over Europe.

The 5 Heads of Doctrine were, Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints.

Known also as the Doctrines of Grace, or the common nickname of today - Calvinism. But I dislike the name since I do not follow a man, so I stick with the historical name.. The 5 Heads of Doctrine, or The Doctrines of Grace.

    Soteriology means Doctrine of Salvation...

    The 89 Cent Answer... :saint:

This isn't mocking your trailer as much as it
    is an attempt at humor.

    - Sola scriptura
    - Sola grits (Breakfast & lunch
    - Sola fried taters (lunch & supper)
    - Solus Christus
    - Soli Deo gloria

    Personally I'm a 3½-point of 5-points Calvinist
    and only 10½-point of 12-pints* Recoverist :)

So I do stay away from the Wine
(however, I'm a good Baptist Board [BB] member:
I so celebrate with a lot of WHINE ;) )

    * note - I'll let my Freudian Slip stay - tee hee
(you know 'pints' has to do with booze, 'points' with
what I was trying to say)

Before I was 16 years of age I had no idea there was a point system let along what a Calvinist or Arminian was... Until I met one of my best friends who was a Reformed Baptist through another friend.

By 19 I started to attend his Reformed Baptist Church but considered myself 3 point Calvinist.... I had trouble with L and I part of TULIP.

By 21 I had the misfortune of being in a debate with my friend over Calvinism and one night at the church I was circled  by a group because they wanted in on the debate. One was a 9 year old boy who could debate the issue like a 60 year old Theologian. (IF you have ever been to a Reformed Baptist Church, you will know what I mean.. People get DEEP) That 9 year old boy shot down every argument I had with eloquence and knowledge of scripture.

By 22 I was a full blown 5 point Calvinist.. But still very much dispensational except on the Sabbath, I had a love for the Lord's Day Sabbath since I was a child....

By 24 I went Covenantal and Post Tribulational but still PreMillennial. Accepted the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith.

By 26 I had gone to the Reformed View of the Lord's Supper.

By 27 I was an Exclusive Psalmist and Theonomic.

I am now 28 almost 29 but with a few more growths.... But still fully Baptist in Baptism....

    I guess about 28 I'd figured that
    Calvin could explain how God works;
    Arminius could explain how people function;
and Ed can't figure out Calvin nor Arminius.
So I got stuck on easy things like 'futureology'
(which cannot be cause 'ology' means 'the
study of' and the future hasn't happened
yet so there is nothing tahere to study.

Anyway, Revelation was easier to understand
than Ephesians so I visit a lot in the
    Versions/Translations Forum.

    Japheth,

Welcome to BB. I'm impressed with your knowledge of Reform Theology already. You'll find plenty of company here for your idealism. Then you will run into those like me twice your age for whom Reform speculations are "systematized philosophy" -- the 'net' that is spread in the sight of the 'bird' Prov 1:17.

Perhaps we could begin with a most important question, by seeing what unity we have in the Spirit (Eph 4:3) --- what is the gospel of grace? Where do you find it in scripture?

    Skypair,

Thank you for your kind remarks... My knowledge is only a nickel in comparison to the giants of the past and some of the reformed baptist pastors who are living today and have far more knowledge then I do.. I wish I had a tenth of their knowledge, such man like Pastor Al Martin of Montville NJ, Pastor Mark Langley of Topeka KS, Pastor Mark Chanski of Holland MI, Pastor William Einwecter of Ephrata PA, Pastor Nichols of Grand Rapids MI, Pastor Sam Waldron of Alabama, etc..

God has truly placed wisdom and knowledge on those men. Also those giants who have come before us such as John Calvin, John Gill, Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, Martin Bucer, Martin Luther, Thomas Cramner, George Gillespie, Hanserd Knollys, William Kiffin, Ben Keach, William Collins, etc.... Most if not all of those men could literally read the scriptures in the original languages without aids.

I am nothing compared to those men but I again thank you for your kind remarks...
