Where you trying to say they changed the verse to a comment or you talking about the notes?

    * I thought your issue was the text. Never mind if it wasn't

No. The foreknowledge of God is with reference to people --not just advance information about things.

    "Those God foreknew."

The 2011 NIV was first posted on-line around November of 2010. So it has been avaliable for almost five years. It is simply known as the NIV.
There is no spinning. Please tell us how the meaning has changed from the 1984 edition.

    I prefer servant.

The NET note begins with :"or deaconess."

    NLT,GWT and NRSV have deacon.
    The NABand Darby have minister.
    YLT has ministrant.
The ISV and Amplified have deaconess.

"Those He foreknew refers" to the target group of God's redemption plan formulated before creation.

Some people just don't get it. A careful reading and meditation of Romans 8:28-30 would be helpful.

Folks, take a look at every single time foreknew is used in the NT, and see if you can discern the idea of implementing a predetermined plan or using information obtained in the past at the present time.

Acts 26:5 says they had knowledge learned in the past that Paul was raised as a Pharisee, they could bear witness now to that fact.

Romans 8:29 is presenting God's predetermined plan of redemption, those God's plan would redeem would also be predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.

Now consider these additional usages: Romans 11:2, 1 Peter 1:20 and 2 Peter 3:17.

God and His foreknowledge is based upon His divine Will, as he causes the saints/elect to come to glory, while he permits the lost to "have that will be done"

Those He chose to save would also be those whom he foreknow, as His decision to save causes his foreknowledge of them!

Some folks never seem to support their assertions, but just post them.

The issue is what was the idea being expressed by use of the Greek word translated as foreknew? We have 5 examples and one conclusion, the idea is implementing a predetermined plan or using information obtained in the past at the present time.

Romans 11:2 "God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?" How does using information obtained in the past at the present time strike you?

The term used for forknowledge though indicates that God purposed and caused those who were His own ro xome unto Him, , so in that sense, duie to Him choosing them first, he already knew them!

Some people like to make assertions devoid of biblical support. I have shown, using all five cases of usage in scripture, what the idea is when using the Greek word translated as foreknew. We have 5 examples and one conclusion, the idea is implementing a predetermined plan or using information obtained in the past at the present time.

Unless you can show from scripture where "foreknew" means something else, then you should be in agreement.

The original languages though would support foreknowledge of God being in an active sense, as God foreknew those whom he had already chosen to receive salvation in Christ...

Die to act of His will, not in reaction to Him seeing us believing in Jesus first!
