I am sure that all of posting now have agreed to the new rules. Because of all the strife, I am asking for clarification of this:

By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are
knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, hateful, harassing, libelous, pornographic,
abusive, obscene, profane, invasive of a person's privacy, vulgar, sexually-orientated,
hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The word hateful was used twice above, what does webmaster or moderators consider hateful?

Invasive of a person's privacy, does that mean if we have knowledge of someone's personal business we are not allowed to post it without their permission? What if someone posted details about themselves, is it still private?

The purpose of these questions is to make sure that no lines are being crossed, by myself or others.

Thank you for your time. Sorry if I should have posted this somewhere else.

Think the webmaster is tired of the "hateful" ;) speech so common on many threads. Attacking people, not issues.

We have people who post on the BB who work in fields where they can find out much about others (think police, banks, government) and some have used proprietary information to SLAM another or ridicule or rebutt a position. This cannot be.

We have people who post on the BB with an "agenda" beyond debate or discussion (purpose of the BB) into active proselyting to false religions or cults. This will not be allowed.

Most of the rules listed are NON-ISSUES with the majority of posters here. And the culprits will probably either lie or not see themselves and sign anyway. This gives the BB admin the right to boot-&-ban.

    Don't let it worry you.

Really Dr. Bob? I had no idea people would do such a thing.

Don't let it worry me? Why Dr. Bob, I think that is the nicest thing you ever said about me! [IMG]

I'll try never to do it again! [IMG]

But seriously, in the last month we have had people say, "I wouldn't believe xyz because I've seen his credit rating . . ". Another said some slurs because of family members who were incarcerated.

I appreciate the mess herr Webmeister went through to enhance the BB and NOT want that kind of conduct.

BTW, my wife "doctors" many folks on the BB. How would it look for me to go through the private files (I don't, btw) and then bring up some matter on the BB to "dis" them?

Now MY "mental condition" is public knowledge. But my motto has always been "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

Dr. Bob, if someone posts on the board that their son is in jail and makes it common knowledge, is it wrong to mention it?

Well, I'm not Dr. Bob but I'll give my thoughts. YES it was wrong. The young man I believe you're referring to WAS in jail. WAS. He's paid his debt, in church every Sunday and working. Why bring up stuff like that at all? There was no need. You could have just as easily said 'I didn't realize you had 2 sons living at home'.

Can we mention things that people have said publicly on the board, and I would think if it weren't being used maliciously?

Amen, kiddo, that is the spirit. Common, public knowledge can be used - I tease folk or jab at where they live or their accent - but the key word is HATEFUL. "Malicious" shows that intent - good choice.

Hard, though, to see the motives. So we need to walk carefully and try not to needlessly offend.

Do you limit your posts or do bring up past information? Wasn't it you that provided information on Sue. Same prinicipal, was your intention malicious?

Yes, I could have easily said just that. When I said I wasn't aware of two sons, it was because all I ever knew of was one and at the time he was mentioned, he was in Jail.

Isn't it polite and cordial to engage in civil conversation and not always debate?

Just for your information, birth my sons live at home, one is 21 and the other 22.

I responded to the information provided with what I knew that had been mentioned previously.

Yep! Sue's quite proud of all her kids and her kids are quite proud of her! They're all doing the Lord's work! She won't brag about them so I'll brag for her. [IMG]

BTW, Shawna is Shawna W. and she's only been a member a very short time. That's why the name didn't ring a bell with you.

Our 27 year old still lives at home.

Diane, I am sure Sue is pleased as punch that her children made it through their difficult times and are serving the Lord. That is very commendable on her part. We should call her Sue Wesley! A big compliment.

But aren't you violating the privacy rule by giving her daughters name?

Shouldn't common sense be the rule of the day??? Is it really necessary to parse "is"???

And wouldn't that just make your day.....

How could I be when both Shawna and Sue have said openly on the board and Sue even wishes her good night and good morning. It's openly on the board in the prayer forum, coffee house, games forum, etc. (social areas) all the time. Dr. Bob has several sons who are members and he calls them by name, Thankful and Ed are husband and wife, my husband is a member but doesn't post because he's too defensive of me and would be banned the first day. This is all common knowledge and none of it is 'ugly' or 'embarassing'.

Seems like every thread you've started since your pastor convinced you the internet is evil has been an effort to start a fuss. I've got better things to do.

As I note that my name was brought up in some of this discussion, I, as well as my Mama don't make it a secret on here or anywhere else that we ae Mother and daughter. Especially since I always say GM Mama and good night Mama. I refuse to use my Mother's name. It is disrespectful when I am talking to my Mom and call her Sue. I, myself, don't care who knows that I am her daughter and don't see how it is violating a privacy rule when I am a member and have made the reference myself.

Here I told my Mom that I prolly wouldn't go to the debate forum because I like to argue too much (one of my many faults). I am not being disagreeable but am wondering what the big fuss is about? I don't see what purpose it serves to bring up something about anyone being in jail. THe big questions I ask when posting something or saying anything is 1. Does it hurt anyone? 2. Does it help anyone? If no is the first answer then I don't say it. If yes is the second answer I am all for it. If the answer is no to both then that is fine too. But if it can make another persons day a bit better well, thats when it is something worth saying

Although I believe the Webmaster did a fine job in the new agreement, there is a higher authority that tells us what our conversation should be like.

Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (KJV)

Thank you Pastor Bob! Well spoken words of wisdom.

Shawna, nice to meet. But I don't visit the lower portions of the board much. My time is valuable. Most times I ask questions and respond to the replies.

Most, like to take what I say and twist it, which is permissable. But should I return the favor, then I am out of order.

I think it lies within the fact that when I first came to the BB, as well as many others, I was shocked to see the liberalism among the Baptist brethren. Hence, I came off pretty strong, and some people haven't gotten over that and seem to follow me around to discredit anything I say.

I am sure you are sweet lady and will have a major influence on the board. [IMG]

    Hi Shawna,
there has been in the past people from the forum to invade another posters private life away from the BB also. And as has been said someone was actually bale because of their job get a credit report on another BBer. This is certainly too much for a message board. I think about the person who had been in jail they weren't just mentioning it, but using it against someone.

How do you figure that? There are even some people who take information from PM and posted it on the open forum. There are people who have tried to work things out through the pm's but refused and want to keep this as an ongoing argument. ;)
