Rep. Scott beat out the son of Strom Thurmond and the son of former Gov. Carroll Cambell in the primary in 2010. I believe he was a small businessman but am not sure. He is no firebrand like Rep. Trey Gowdy but have seen him on TV a few times. Very cool, collected, and appears to be a very sharp Conservative. Of course the Senate has ruined many a good Conservative!

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to name Rep. Tim Scott as the replacement for outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint, Fox News has learned.

Haley is slated to announce her decision at noon on Monday at the Statehouse. Scott was elected to Congress in the 2010 Republican wave. Haley's selection would make him the first black U.S. senator from South Carolina.

State law gives the Republican governor sole authority to pick DeMint's successor. DeMint, considered an ideological godfather of the Tea Party movement, announced less than two weeks ago that he would resign Jan. 1 to take the helm of the Heritage Foundation, a national conservative think tank.
Haley's appointee will fill the seat until 2014, when voters will choose who will fill the remaining two years of DeMint's term.

Finalists for the position were thought to include not only Scott, but former first lady Jenny Sanford, U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, former Attorney General Henry McMaster and state health agency director Catherine Templeton.

Scott would become the sixth black senator in U.S. history, with the last being Barack Obama and his brief successor Roland Burris. Scott also becomes the first black Republican senator since Ed Brooke, who served two terms representing Massachusetts in the 1960s and 1970s.

Tim Scott has been appointed to fill the South Carolina Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Jim DeMint, and immediately the racebaiters jumped in with both feet to attack him. One of the early hatemongers was Amos Brown, a host on a religious radio station in Indianapolis, Indiana. Brown used his Twitter account to claim that African American Tim Scott isn't really a black man. Tim Scott is, of course, a Republican just like Governor Haley who will appoint him to the vacant seat. All one need be is a black man in the GOP and the hatemongers come out in force with their racist name calling and radio host Amos Brown rose early to the rote attack.
On his Twitter account (@Amoswtlcindy), Brown wrote, "Gee, courtesy of S Carolina GOP, the nation gets Tim Scott an ultra-rightwing, Tea Party devotee US Senator who's Black only in skin color."
Mr. Amos Brown calls himself a man of God and works for AM 1310, "The Light," a religious station that caters to the African American community in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Brown has a grandiose description of himself on his Twitter account: "Radio Host, Media Mgr, Columnist, Servant/Leader, Demographer, Chronicler of Indy's communities, Grandfather, Institutional Memory."

I suspect he is in for a hard time the next two years! Clarence Thomas is still getting attacked by the radical leftists and racists.
