I know that you did not popst it, but wouldn't you agree that this would not be the one to grab to do serious studie on the bible with?

To do serious study does not necessarily mean going to a more form-oriened translation. Anyone can use a formally equivalent version but should have a less form-oriented one also to compare.

The NKT is not as dynamic as the NLT,and certainly not in any way similiar to The Message.

How much of its 'strange " wording would be due to british idioms/phrasing?

There was a huge row, which resulted in them splitting up.
16:18 : Paul got fed up with it...And it came out then and there.
16:37 : No way! Let them come themselves and take us out.
17:34 : whipping up the crowd.
19:24 : which brought the workmen a tidy income.
19:40 : there is no reason we could give which would enable us to present a satisfactory explanation for this uproar.
20:1 : after the hue and cry had died down

maybe not british, but doesn't read like how they would have actually said it!

    Comparing With Weymouth

So there arose a sharp altercation between them, which resulted in their parting from one another.
    in vexation...And it departed immediately.
No,indeed! Let them come in person and fetch us out.

which brought great profit to the craftsmen
there having been no real reson for this riot
    When the uproar had ceased

Compared with Weymouth's translation there is no difficulty whatsoever.

You don't know what you are saying. The NKT is a mediating translation such as the NET,HCSB,NAS,ISV,NJB and NIV. From the past, the old Norlie,Modern Language Bible etc. were right in the same ballpark.
