    Good morning, all.

I've been asked to speak during the evening service; the first sunday of 2008.

I want to challenge the congregation in the New Year, but I have zero ideas---normally if I have to speak, I pick a passage and expound on it.

Should I just stick to that?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a sermon that I preached for the new year last year.

    A Biblical New Year’s Wish
    I Thess 5:23-24
    I. May God Sanctify You Completely
The parallel passage in 3:12, reveals that the content of complete sanctification is “increasing in love for one another

II. May you, in your entire being, be ready for Jesus’ return
The parallel passage in 3:13 reveals that readiness in our entire being equates to God establishing our hearts blameless and holy before God at the time that Jesus returns

III. God, who has called you to salvation, is faithful and he certainly will do this.

    How does God Sanctify us?

God sanctifies us as we obey him
“as you received from us how you should live” (4:1)
“you have been taught by God to love one another (4:9)

    God sanctifies us progressively
“increase and abound in love” (3:12)
“do so more and more” (4:1b)
“do so more and more” (4:10b)

    God sanctifies us in love
“love for one another and for all”

    God sanctifies us in purity
“This is God’s will, even your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual sin.”

    God sanctifies us in witness
    We are to be quiet
    We are to be private
    We are to be diligent

So that we have a good testimony to the unsaved
    So that we are independent

I will be filling in at a church on Dec. 30th. I feel lead to give this church a challenge/charge/ firing up for the new year.

They are seeking a pastor and have been without one for awhile.

I am being lead to encourage them , but at the same time get them motivated to keep fighting the good fight- serving the Lord- reaching the lost.

    I am thinking about using

    Isaiah 40:28-31.

I am not yet sure how it will build up from there but I am trusting for the Holy Spirit to lead me in that .

Noah was a figure of working despite discouragement. God told him to build the ark and he did so....over a period of a hundred and twenty years I think! I mean, if I can't get my computer to boot up the first time I hit the switch, I get upset. If someone in Accounting doesn't do their job, I get depressed. But to have to listen to people rail on you for a century while all you're doing is being obedient requires encouragement!

We need to pray for your church....searching for a pastor is difficult. God will send His man to you in His own time, but keep building, brother.
