I agree with what Preach is saying. I am in no way racist at all, my best friend for most of my life is half black and half Korean. However, I do think the parents have the right to request from the children a certain group to marry from and they are not "wicked" for doing so. I personally would not do that to my children (if the Lord blesses me with them), but I don't see anything wrong with that in and of itself. I am reminded of Abraham's request for his son Isaac (Gen. 24:3-4). However, if the request is out of hatred just because of skin color the parents are wrong, but I guess it is still their "right" as a parent.

Oh yeah, I agree with you totally Preach. We are all part of the human race!

I didn't say otherwise, but your saying that it's not wicked for a school, albeit a private one, to set racist policies or for a parent to teach a child racism could raise that question.

And, again, how long did he run the school before he was forced to get rid of the policy?

    I agree.

I know you meant that as an insult but, seeing as he's the only person here honest enough to see BJIII and BJU for what they are, thank you.

If you don't see anything wrong with it, then why would you not consider it for your children?

Was this because he saw the race as inferior or because he was afraid he would marry into a pagan tribe?

Well, what would be the right reason for requesting it?

No doubt, it's their "right", but are they right in doing it?

bob jones is a racist and bju is a racist institution - there really is no doubt about that.

still if people want to pay good money for the worthless and unacredited 'degrees' that they give out then it is there choice.

Perhaps you, or Mike, or Josh would be willing and able to do what no one has yet done ... that is give evidence of this racism.

I am curious as to who was being discriminated against in this (no longer existent) policy of no interracial dating? Was it discrimination against the blacks or the whites? After all, both were treated equally so far as I know. Racism is unequal treatment on teh basis of race. To my knowledge it does not exist at BJU and no one has shown any evidence to the contrary. Perhaps Mike, since you have been so loudmouthed about this, you would be willing to step up to the plate with some evidence.

Guys, Dr Bob III changed the rules after Dr. Bob Jr. passed away (Jr. was the chancelor until he died, and was definitely of the OLD SOUTHERN ORDER). Dr. Bob III is in no way a racist, though the school has that reputation & family heritage. He is not an advocate of racism or bigotry. I went there for 4 years and 2 summers, and should be able to tell. Some of the top student leadership roles were acquired by minorities.

However, BJU has been misled for years with the whole inter-racial marriage thing. I actually heard a chapel sermon years ago in which it was proposed that inter-racial marriage would make way for the anti-christ! That's nutty. But, every major conservative (fundamentalist) Christian institution has a nutty heritage, and at least BJU is finally coming out of the woods on this issue. A great deal of other schools have been getting nuttier as the years go on (ex. Pensacola & KJO propaganda). I believe that it's up hill for BJU & I'm willing to give them a chance to go with it.
For those who are interested in the school, I believe that the main problem with BJU at the current time is Dean of Students Jim Berg & his hybridized Gothard(won't admit the source)/pop-psych/Bergism that filters down to every level of student leadership. It doesn't work, and is deceptive in its intent and practise.

As far as Dr. Bob III on Larry King, I don't like it for personal reasons:
    1. I don't like Larry King
    2. I don't like Dr. Bob on TV. It's just weird to me.
    3. I don't like Larry King.

There you have it, from a self-professed expert on the subject :D .

I give the guy credit for doing away with it, but it wasn't done out of any sort of an act of contrition but to stifle political pressure.

Also, I'll ask you the same thing I asked before:

How long was he running the school before he came to the decision that he should do away with it?

    The reputation is well earned.

Then how do you explain his rabid anti-Catholicism? How do you explain his giving teh pulpit over to people like Paisley?

I wasn't aware of that. Which ones?

    Yes, it is nutty.

Wait a second. I'm Southern Baptist and, God knows, we're about as nutty as they come, but there's a world of difference between "nutty" and racist.

One is relatively amusing or, at worst, annoying. The other is just plain wrong.

I saw it. The show was a non-event. Though there were several reasons that having Jones on the show might be relevant to recent headlines (Trent Lott filed as a friend of the court in the Bob Jones/interracial dating/Supreme Court case in the early eithies and Strom Thurmond was on the board of Bob Jones University and may still be but I don't know that for sure), Larry King seemed either too ill-informed to ask the question (i.e. King seemed not to know about Thurmond on the board since he never asked about it) or he failed to press Jones on the issue (on the issue of Lott filing as a friend of the court) The only other current event that arose was a tape of a reporter asking Ari Fleischer if President Bush wasn't being hipocritical by attacking Trent Lott for a racist statement when Bush spoke at BJU during the 2000 campaign and did not question their then in effect interracial dating policy. Frankly that seemed like a question for President Bush, not for Bob Jones.

If Larry King wants to have a riveting and fascinating show, perhaps he should arrange a debate between Johsua Vilnes and the real Dr. Bob (Griffin). I'd stay up til 10PM to see that!

    Mike,

Am I to understand by your lack of evidence that you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to racism and BJU? It sounds like you, as many others, talk about stuff you know nothing about. I will continue to for you to offer some evidence of racism. He commented on the program that the school's recent Thanksgiving offering raised $30,000 to send exclusively to black churches. Sounds racist to me ...

As for Catholicism, it is a religious difference. Even Thomas Sowell, a Catholic and nationally syndicated columnist could see this. I am surprised that you are not aware of teh vast theological differences between Christians and Catholics. The name "Baptist" just doesn't mean what it used to.

As for Max Heller, I would be very interested to see actual documentation for this picketing. A newspaper article or the like should suffice to prove that you know what you are talking about. Should you fail once again, it will show yet another place where you lack credibility.

Racism has had adverse affects on society. No one disputes that. Affirmative action is the last remaining bastion of racism and it is being promoted by those who know what it is like to be discriminated against. Why aren't you talking about this since it is a real issue that affects people's lives, unlike whatever Bob Jones may feel about other races.

Actually, I am and I've addressed them here at various times.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

I've made my concerns about affirmative action known.

Mike, I will not comment on these verses, but rather suggest that you go to Wheaton's electronic library found at: www.ccel.org and go to their study Bible and look at the various on-line commentators and what they have to say about them.
Virtually every Protestant commentary attributes these verses to the Pope of the Catholic Church. Why would it be unusual for BJU to take a similar historic stance? Why do you expect them to take a stand that is traditionally against history? Again, they are not anti-Catholic, but anti-Catholic doctrine. You don't seem to understand that difference.

The difference is well exemplified on this board, which tolerates Catholics as well, though I am sure the webmaster is not a Catholic and does not embrace Catholic beliefs. Another good example is the gay issue. Joshua Villinues has been here for some time now. If the Webmaster were totally anti-gay he would ban Joshua, just like some time ago he banned a bunch of Atheists and closed down the threads where they were posting. He took away their posting privileges. It is a privilege to post here, not a right. I do not accept a gay life-style. I preach against. Yet I accept Joshua's right to post here. I do not accept Catholic doctrine. I preach against it. Yet I accept their limited privilege to post in the forum where they are allowed. It is a private board. If the board wishes, they may "discriminate" against Catholics all together and not allow any of them to post at all. The issue has been discussed before, with reference of making this a totally Baptist board. Would that then make us "Anti-Catholic" just like you say BJU is?

I do but thank you anyway for being so condescending.

Not necessarily but if the purpose of banning Catholics was to silence the Catholic voice here, then of course it would be anti-Catholic.
