I look at him as no different than some sniper taking shots at people and killing them, and S.W.A.T. is called in to take him out of the picture permanently.

All of them if he had the chance. Even if a sniper were shooting and missing, S.W.A.T. would take the person out.

Also, this wasn't only about his threat to Americans alone, but to others as well.

They would not kill him for talking about it. They would arrest him and try him

That's not always protocol. Remember the shootings in LA (North Hollywood) in 1997? They were taken out. I see this one as much more dangerous on a larger scale. His threat wasn't only to U.S. citizens, but to the innocent abroad, another reason he got his just due.

I'm glad we took him out.

Not arguing that it is a good thing he is gone, but pragmatism does not excuse the execution of a US citizen by presidential fiat. The issue is the trashing of the US Constitution by a man who put his hand on a Bibld and swore to defend and uphold it.

Mine are mixed too. It is a good thing that a threat is gone, but a bad thing that due process is gone as well.

I agree. Either we defend everyone and their civil rights or none of us are safe in the long run.

Those who defend taking his due process rights away remind me of the poem by Martin Niemöller that reads:

Roger, you know I love you, and have a deep respect for you, your family, and your ministry. You are consistent, honest, never take anything personal, and never purposefully contrary.

Why would anyone object to due process? If a person is a baddie, they'll be convicted and punished. In this way we protect all our rights and have a safeguard against a tyrannical government. Roger is 100% correct.

I disagree. Your theory suggests all "baddies" will be convicted and punished. That's a huge stretch. :)

But according to you, the same should apply to Usama. The same should apply to Hitler. Maybe Bonhoeffer should be informed?

They were brought to justice a different way.

Our justice system carries a presumption of not guilty. Otherwise, why ever have a trial? You don't believe in America's system of law?

And none of them were American citizens. Big difference.
