I was going to respond again earlier, but had to calm down first.

I have killed terrorists. Yes, they happened to be Muslim. When two pickups of armed men assault your platoon, you kill them. I don't care if they were Bible believing born again Christians. Try to kill my men and I will end your life. Period. I'd do it again. Hopefully I never will have to.

But is that why I think I know Muslims? No. I know Muslims from befriending them. From stopping in their little villages and playing with their children (even though it's hard to play soccer in full battle rattle. Made it easy not to use my hands, holding my rifle though). I know it from having lunch with them. I know from escorting them to chow on a military post. I know from showering with them.

My point is, I know the Muslim community on a level that you, Catmommy, will never know. I've been face to face with terrorists, and eaten with others. I've trained them. I've discussed religion with them. I've asked them about their home towns, their hopes and dreams, and why they chose to side with America. And when shout and shove came to shoot, I've killed them.

Please, tell me about your vast experience with Muslims that outweighs mine and makes you an expert, that you can disagree with me. I'd love to sit at the feet of a true master.

Wow. I have never seen a poster start out seemingly alright (in other threads) then go totally left field and unite so many people completely against their position.

I don't know. I served in the Corps but I saw no combat. In the presence of those who have, and these days there are many, my service does not deserve a mention.

 

That's in your mind, not mine. Don't sell your service short. All are needed and have a part to play.

If I remember right, it used to take 7 people to put 1 grunt on the ground in combat. That figure may be more like 4 to 1 now, but the principle remains the same.

 

It's not the service, but the willingness to serve. Anyone who joins has done their part.

 

When you have to look a person in the eye who saw their buddies die or they lost limbs, my patroling an air station in southern California as an MP, seems like a day at one of the Sandals Resorts.

What's been evidenced here is that you've just conversed with people who have actual experience , as opposed to those authors you're giving more credit to. Consider: your authors have studied islamic culture. People on this forum have lived it.

Who do you trust? The person who says the sky is green because of the chemicals found in collected samples? Or the one who says it's blue because they actually stepped outside and looked?

You know what I found funniest? The muslim who showed me which drawer he kept his bottle of Scotch. He knew his Qu'ran just as well as the one who they all made fun of because he was devout. Habib the terp was the most polite, respectful, and well-mannered of our group of terps in Afghanistan. And let me tell ya, the guys in the Green Zone in Baghdad thought they had it bad because they had to dodge mortars and rockets once in a while; while me and my two team members, along with about 38 Italians and 80 Fijians and ex-pats, were going to bed surrounded by 1,200 Iraqis each night.

When your authors can talk about islam in terms of living amongst it, like Sapped and others can, then maybe I'll give 'em a cursory read.

And just so we're crystal clear on what I'm trying to say: It's easy to hate the sinner, forgetting to separate them from the sin. But that means you're just full of hate.

 

I have a Navy Expedition Medal for our actions in the Gulf of Sidra, the only action I saw, but t'd I have stood my share of intel intercept missions in the Persian Gulf. Got shot at and missed, but $#!& at and hit, as we used to say.
