Prove to me that this fizzling isn't due to the lack of faith in ANY scripture, autographs or not.

We don't have revival because Christianity is a joke to the world. I know, because I used to be one of them laughing at it.

Rabid KJVOism is but one of the "rubber chickens" that make the church a laughing stock. Take a look at the blaspemy and garbage paraded across the airwaves of America, nay, the world, and you begin to see what the world sees. Faith healers, money grabbers, name-it-and-claim-it, rabid preachers condemning everyone to hell for not attending his church and not reading his bible, universaliats who say everything is fine with everybody...it goes on and on.

Then look to the churches themselves. Most of them are stuck in a time warp that keeps them in the fifties. Don't believe me? Open your hymnal and look at the copyright of the songs. Unless you use fairly contemporary music (and you'll go to hell for that I'm told), the latest date is 1953 (or it is in the redback).

Preachers still stand and give the same style of message that was given in the fifties. The message should not change, but the style must. BUt, still, the same old lame duck squaks through yet another sermon that does not touch the world of today.

Some say to be totally seperate from the world, and so they withdraw into their ivory towers. But the lost need to be able to interact with those who know the Lord, to be able to see that things can be different, that there can be hope.

What will it take for revival to fall? A lot, and the churches of today are not willing to put forth what it will take. The church has become weak and enemic. Those on the pews don't even know where the book of Hosea is located, much less how to defend their faith, or to lead another into the knowledge of Christ.

No, Lacy, blaming it on the multitude of defferent translations, or on the idea of "autograph-only" is not the answer.

God's people must return to the fullness of Christ, the maturity of faith. They must be willing to stand for what is right, and to denounce publicly that with is wrong. They must be willing to join the fray and pull down the strongholds that the enemy has built in this world. They must fall to their knees in repentence and intercession.

    They must be WILLING.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Just because it isn't happenning where you are, don't paint us all with that broad brush.

My church is vibrant and growing in the real sense, not just in the church growth movement sense.

Of course, we don't believe your autographs only straw man either, so our revival is no proof that you are wrong.

Lacy Evans:I teach eight graders who average about a 4th grade reading. These kids couldn't read their way out of a wet paper bag, but they have gotten the "autograph-onlyism" message. They sit in church with mom and listen to the preacher say, "Now this is not really in the 'original', a 'better' translation would be, my favorite version says, most scholars agree, the 'oldest and best' manuscripts say, etc"

What if you teach a kid KJVO & when he/she grows up, he/she sees through the KJVO smokescreen, & studies the Greek & Hebrew, finding that the KJV has made some poor renderings such as "Easter" in Acts 12:4? Your credibility with that person is gone, and maybe that person's faith also if he/she discovers a devout Christian had told a falsehood?

Then they come to me and tell me that "nobody knows what the Bible really says." How did they figure that out? "Autograph-onlyism" is the catalyst for modern despair.

The prob isn't "autograph-ism; it's having been pumped full of KJVO stuff for years & then finding out it's false.

the King James Bible OTOH, in it's day before it was overshadowed by doubt, was the catalyst for holiness and revival.

As was the Geneva Bible before it, and others after it. God is NOT limited to just one version.

As for having a forum ONLY for anti-KJVOismists, that would be resorting to THEIR tactic of having a private feel-good club,

    "where never is heard"
    "a discouraging word"

Why flatter them by imitating them?

I believe I can predict what would happen if you spoiled the KJVO fun of gendering strife by an excusionary forum.

They would go back home crowing as martyrs who had been "put out" of the BB.

Unkind? Yes, perhaps, but look at the strife and division they have caused here, not only that, they are proud of it.

[IMG] That's one of the best lines I've read in ages. While it made me chuckle, I think it is sadly true.

I spent a sizeable chunk of my life within a KJVO group. Let me tell you, as a whole, they did not portray much of the character of Christ. Their exclusionary attitude was not confined to the version of scripture, it included contempt even for one another when users of other translations weren't handy to devour.

The kids I am speaking of are the 8th graders I teach in public school. They have never been in KJVO church in their life.

Hank, when have either myself, Granny Gumbo, Michelle, etc. ever caused you any strife, any division, or displayed pride? Those are serious charges. If I have ever done anything to hurt you I apologize. I don't understand the shots over the bow when we have known each other for months (years?).

I wish you could see what I see. Till then we debate like men.

I know one thing, you'll never convince a man of his "error" by speaking about those who share his view in such broad, subjective, and negative terms.

I really respect you. You seem like a man of God and have always treated me with dignity. Man! Do I appreciate it! Get back to being yourself.

God's word and truth have ALWAYS been REJECTED and MOCKED by the world. God's words CONVICT THE SINNER OF SIN and the WORLD does not LIKE IT. God's words DO NOT CONFORM to the world, nor should they. The WORD OF GOD should CONFORM the world. Many today have got it backwards.

The only reason this would happen is if they believed the lies being told and look to the wrong Greek and Hebrew texts, rely upon an impersonal/inadequate understanding of the these languages, and lose their faith and trust in God's providence and promise over/concerning his words. (Gen.3:1, Luke 8 also come to mind)

    I have and He did.

Telling lies about the Bible is no way to build confidence in it. The KJO doctrine is an evil, deceitful, divisive, and crippling teaching, and it is the most destructive influence in Baptist churches today.

Right now, as you are reading this, there are revivals taking place throughout Latin America, and most of those people have never even heard of the King James translation of the Bible.

My house is surrounded by colleges and universities, and my neighbors have advanced degrees from some of the finest universities in the world. For the most part, they believe that the Bible is a joke because of pastors who are a joke. These pastors have not bothered to get an education, but have the audacity to stand in the pulpit and preach from a translation of the Bible that they have never bothered to learn how to read. By far, the most pitifully and shamefully ignorant pastors are the KJO pastors. They are so ludicrously ignorant that they make the Bible and everything that it says appear to be nothing but a tool to dig into people’s pockets.

If the Bible is not relevant enough today for a pastor to learn how to read it in the languages in which it was written, why should anyone believe that the Bible is relevant to them? Yes, there are some very poor translations and paraphrases of the Bible out there, but most people are smart enough to see that they are little more than trash, and do not bother with them. There are also some very good translations for lay people to read, and they are not the problem—the problem is the uneducated pastor trying to reach the educated world while he himself is not committed to Christ and His word.

Yes, there are plenty of educated pastors who are ineffective because they don’t really believe the Bible, but an uneducated pastor can not be effective in an educated world, and especially not if he is so foolish as to use an archaic translation that sounds totally irrelevant.

When I go out onto the street and witness, one of the most common responses that I get is that the Bible has been changed over and over again. And since I study the Bible in Greek and Hebrew, and have studied all of the common translations of the Bible, I KNOW that the Bible has not been changed, and I am able to share that truth with my listeners with 100% conviction. And I don’t have to tell them which translation is the only real word of God—casting suspicion on both myself and the Bible, all I have to do is share with them the difference that the Bible has made in my life, and difference it can make in their life, creating in their heart a hunger for the word of God. And I don’t have to tell them to go only to a KJO church—casting further suspicion on both myself and churches, all I have to do is encourage them to attend a church where the Bible is preached, and leave it up to the Holy Spirit to lead them to the church that can best meet their particular needs.

    4. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
    5. does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
    6. does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
    7. bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

    Thanks and OK. [IMG]

    Sorry for the "thalamic" responses.

BTW if you don't remember I was accused of this (being thalamic) some weeks ago...

    Main Entry: thal·a·mus
    Function: noun
    Inflected Form(s): plural thal·a·mi
    Etymology: New Latin,
from Greek thalamos chamber: the largest subdivision of the diencephalon that consists chiefly of an ovoid mass of nuclei in each lateral wall of the third ventricle and functions in the integration of sensory information

    Merriam Webster Online Dictionary

 Oh my, I really don't know if it was an insult or a compliment.

I believe that it is very obvious that the source of the KJVO lie is something much more sinister than simple foolishness. If it were not for the powers of darkness, even a fool could plainly see that KJOism is pathetic nonsense.

Ransom~as this is the ONLY bible I've ever known or used, and same goes for all my kith and kin, then WHO is the inventor of this kjv-onlyism...certainly none of us. It HAS to be someone who decided they don't like the idea of sticking to the old ways, right? And you're right, they are foolish.

That's funny . . . I recognize the WORDS as English, but they do not seem to be placed in an order that suggests a coherent thought.
