What makes the Iraqi terrorists - which ones? - classier than bin Laden or Rappani Khalilov?

Are the Iraqi terrorists better versed on the internal politics of the US than we are theirs? Do they know what a "Democrat" or a "Republican" is?

Oh surely, about somethings, but not about others.

Tuesday night, we'll see how accurate this is, but I think the Democrats will gain control of the House by well over the 15 seats needed, and the Senate will be very close one way or the other.

Almost all races tighten at the end. The best guess is that the house will be democrat and the Senate just barely republican.

The extensive gerrymandering done by the GOP, and possibly control of the voting machines might make a difference here and there, as we saw in Florida.

But it won't be enough this time, unless Rove can pull another surprise out of his hat at the last minute.

So what? Khomeini did everything he could to make sure Carter was defeated.

    Hey,

    You forgot one:
If you think that the GOP is simply going to sit back and let the Democrats take power, you have VASTLY underestimated the GOP.

If there is one thing that Rove has shown us, it's that they will do anything and everything to win. It would not surprise me if the GOP actually adds to their majority, due to some unanticipated results in certain races.

Then we can watch Social Security evolve from a defined benefit plan to one of defined contribution as the entire program is privatized. That will be the end of SS as we know it.

Regards - hope this post finds you well,
    BiR (finally back in town)

I surely hope that SS is disolved and privatized. And that goes for every other communistic socialist program the Dems have foisted on us.

I am sick and tired of paying for OTHER people. I work hard enough to provide for my own family. This mentality of entitlement is going to help destroy this nation.

Who was it that said something like ;"when the people find out they can legislate government largesse they will bleed the country to death with entitlements." (Loosely quoted.)

That is just ONE of the many cripplers the Dems have done to this country. I hope and pray that they will be stopped soon.

And I am REALLY concerned to see the GOP falling into the same miry clay of Gov't. handouts to special interests.

In my view, "There is not a dime's bit of difference between the GOP and the DEM."

Social Security has done more to insure that elderly Americans do not live in poverty than anything else. It has been a rousing success.

Composite poll predictions tonight show Democrats with significant leads in 21 of the currently held Republican seats, which will give them a six seat majority in the House. Gallup and Rasmussen both have comments which suggest that, by Tuesday, they may pick up as many as 10 more seats.

The Senate looks to be a +3 Democrat gain, not enough for control. The Tennessee seat depends on which paper you look at. The Republican papers in Chattanooga and Knoxville have Corker up by just one percent, the Democratic newspapers in Nashville and Memphis have Ford up by one percent. That will come down to turnout, and with Democratic party registration up more than 6 percent statewide, I'm guessing that will be where the margin of victory falls. Keep in mind, this is a Red state.

I don't expect too many inroads by Democrats in red states. Their strategy is to pick up as many Republican held seats in the blue state areas, which, in the long run, will give them the House and the electoral majority they need to win the White House in 2008.

In more than half of the districts where the President campaigned this week, the Republican candidate lost ground in the polls.

Absolutely - Such as exposing DUI arrests from 25 years ago; Forged National Guard documents; Allegations of huge amounts of explosives coming up missing in Iraq; a Bob Woodward book that is highly critical of the Bush administration released shortly before elections; A highly dubious report on massive Iraqi deathrates. Curse that Rove! Oh wait, these were all October surprises intended to unseat Republicans weren't they. Never mind.

Odd that "people" are considered special interests.

I like what George Will said:

If Shaw looses, that will be
evidence for this axiom of politics in a
    welfare state: Any new entitlement
generates less gratitude for what is
given than it does resentment for what is
    withhead.

Did they ever figure out who it was that released that information? I have even heard that Rove himself is the one who released the info, as it would simply galvanize the support of those who were voting for Bush. If he did do this (and notice that I used the word "if"), then you have to admit that was pretty smart and very effective. I was a huge Bush supporter in 2000, and was outraged that the info. was released.... on BOTH Bush and Cheney.

All of this would be cleared up if the real documents were released, wouldn't it? Some have even speculated that Rove is the source of the documents. Again, if that is true (and notice that I used the word "if" again), that too is extraordinary, if not brilliant. Not only was the forged document OBVIOUSLY forged (they didn't have Microsoft Word(tm) back then), it effectively neutralized any adversaries at CBS. Dan Rather was too polarized to notice the obvious, and is paying the price for it.

I am not familiar with this.

Don't forget the first two Woodward books, which were not critical.

I am not familar with this.

Well, if you feel that way, then by all means. But I have tremendous respect for Karl Rove. Is there anyone on the other side of the aisle who even approaches his ability? Begala and the Ragin' Cajun combined couldn't challenge him. Rove is the undisputed best at what he does. Regardless of your political leanings, you have to marvel at his genius.

None of them are going to work. As I have previously written, I do not believe that the GOP will lose control of either House.

The question is: what is Rove going to do in 2008? Is he going to retire, or will he again work to put someone else in office? If he does, the smart money says he will do it again.

    Just my opinion, nothing more,

The GOP loss of the House, if it happens, will be good for America. It suddenly puts accountability back into federal government.

And that's always a good thing.

Someone mentioned GOP gerrymandering. Please remember that Democrats are guilty of this as well (Take my state of Tennessee, for instance, and particularly my House congressional district (4th) and the state house/senate redistricting - The Districts look like they were drawn by my 2 year old nephew).

I agree with Ken. I believe the GOP hangs on to slim majorities in both houses. Modest gains will be made by the Dems.

Lots of people are saying the senate race here in Tennessee is over. Don't count on it. The Ford family finds ways to win, even if those ways aren't legal

I want accountability too, but if the GOP loses the house, it wouldn't automatically bring accountability back. People said that would happen in 1994 if the GOP took congress. Don't think they've necessarily been proven right.

The important thing is that with a democrat House, the foxes are no longer guarding the henhouse.

No doubt it will take considerable time to clean up the mess, but it's a first step. And hopefully, the continued assault on the Constitution and liberty will be blunted.
