    Good evening -

In the Gospel of John today we read of the analogy that Christ presented of the Christian community being like a sheep pen. To truly understand this analogy, one should compare these teachings to the Old Testament writings concerning concerning shepherds as those who care for God's flock. Some of the more direct writings of this subject can be found in Psalm 80:1; Psalm 23:1; Isaih 40:10-11; Isaih 56:9-12; and Ezekiel 34. Christ also pointed out the charectaristic of many domestic animals recognizing the voice of one who cares for them. The Christian knows the Voice of Christ and responds accordingly. This fits quite well with our readings in 2Peter and 1John concerning the knowledge with which we have been endowed.

In 1John we coame to the passaage concerning "loving the world." Do not confuse this with the world that Christ came to save (2:2) but rathger understand that this is the world over which sin has dominion as described in verse 17 and in James 4:4.

    May God bless you

    - Clint
