    Good evening -

In the Book of Daniel we read the account known to almost any kid who ever went through Sunday School, the three men in the fiery furnace. The lesson is, of course, how God protects those of faith. Notice that in verse 3:18 that the men recognize that God may not save their bodies. We are never assured of physical safety as the countless multitudes of martyrs can attest. However, we are assured of spiritual salvation and it is in this that our hope lies.

In John we see the words of Isaiah 6:10 fulfilled. This passage is quoted by both Christ and Paul and attest to the hard heartedness of the Jewish Pharisees.

    The Book of 2 John

Again as in the first Letter to bear his name, there is little reason to doubt the authenticity of the Disciple John being the author of this Letter. Having a parallel reading of the Gospel of John makes the reader aware that the style is identical.
The purpose of this very short Letter is similar to 1John. Again, the threat of Gnosticism was very prevelant to John's audience and this letter is to warn the recepients not to offer food and lodging to these false teachers. Bear in mind that this does not exclude conversing and witnessing to them, but to lodge and feed would make one an accessory to their heresy.

    May God bless you

    - Clint
