I saw on MSNBC this morning where the church and religion is now being blamed for society's ills.

    MSNBC story

This kind of reasoning can come only from Satan through his willing vessels. Conversely, it is the church that has always supplied the cure for society's evils. The church is definitely not the cause of society's problems. The source of the problems society has can be traced back to sin, not the church. Just how blind can people be?

Oh, their blinded and it will only get worse. This world hates Jesus Christ, whether they know it or not. Anyone that takes a stand for Christ will be hated also, just like Jesus said they would.

Thanks for the "link fix" Daisy! I sure didn't notice the problem when I first posted the link. [IMG]

Ask the wrong question... get the wrong answer... and in this case apparently it was intentional.

The correct way to approach this is to ask how adherence to Christianity impacts these various ills.

Does a fundamentalists rejection of tv the cause of some 11 year old kid shooting his class mates?

This broad view also doesn't take into account the demographics of these ills in America.

The voting patterns in our country demonstrate that we have a pretty serious dichotomy in values. It would be interesting to break the crime rates down by "red" county and "blue" county to see which most favorably compare to these other nations.

The truly scary alternative being the red counties doing better than the blue ones?

My personal hypothesis based on the original article is that the number of churchgoers outnumbers the number of Born Againers by a considerable margin.
Probably because being an active churchmember is considered /the norm/proper/usefull in the USA.

I think that perhaps open rebellion to the truth that is presented would be a more likely culprit. The world hates truth; you could lose your head over it. Just ask John.

It sounds like the nonsecular part of our society is blame shifting. Typical.

...No dear, we didnt cause your problems, but we are here to show you how to overcome them.

Now that doesn't sound like our eac, to claim that the religious part of society is to blame and is shifting said blame to the secular part (if the non part is shifting, it would be shifted to the non-non, right?)

Ah yes, now this sarcastic condescention sounds like our eac.

Anyhoo, as has been pointed out, correlation is not causation. It could just as easily be the other way around, that societies with multiple problems tend to turn to religion.
