    LE,

Unfortunately, there is nothing that will deter someone who is so evil and worthless and so selfish, he is determined to blow himself and others up. It is the ultimate in narcissism. If subway security is tightened, he will just pick other soft targets. These people have sold their very humanity to satan.
Two of the London bombers, they said today, had lived in the UK since ages 10 and 14, coming there for political assylum. They had all the freedom and opportunities that freedom has to offer. But to make matters worse, they were on the public dole - on welfare. That is the "thanks" the UK got for paying their way through this earthly life, and if I understood the news story (I was distracted at the time), I believe they said these two were on public housing. Nice, huh.
IMO, these were two very worthless human beings who contributed nothing to the world by their very existence and contributed only sorrow to the world upon their deaths. They are two examples of utter lifelong selfishness taken to the extreme.

My point is that you seem ready to criticize taking measures to prevent them, and you argue that nothing will work. Yes, I understand the need to stop them at the border and I completely agree with you, but once they're here, do we just throw up our hands and give up?

TS, I take it you are not talking to me here or you totally and completely missed the point I was making.

    No immigration violation?

"Yank them out"? Who are you quoting here?

As I've said several times already, the profiling would not be done by "looks", ie. ethnicity, but by behavior. Whether or not they would be "yanked" would depend on what they were like at that specific time. I don't know how they were while they were waiting to get on the fatal flights.

These weren't carrying bombs anyway. Just boxcutters.

That just isn't possible, logistically speaking. Do you have any idea how many hundreds of thousands of people ride the subway at least twice a day?

About 35. I looked it up - 7,000,000 (seven million) DAILY. And you want to search every one of them each time they enter the system? It's one thing to require people to show up to the airport two hours before take-off, but tacking on extra hours (double those for those with children in daycare or for students who work) to everyone's daily commute simply won't work.

I can't imagine you have a clue what the subway is like at rush-hour to make such a suggestion. If you have not experienced it, you would not know what it is (oh, the humanity!)

The idea that none of the bombers in the war on terror were not Islamic is incorrect. Daisy has said that we know how they act. We are looking for certain behavior characteristics. We should profile those kind of people. Most of them are going to be young men and most of them are going to look Middle Eastern. Guys like Walker were not homocide bombers just traitors. We are looking for homocide bombers in these random searches.

Is there a reason why they cant put everybody's stuff (backpacks, etc) on a separate vehicle of some sort ... away from the passengers?

We're talking millions of people DAILY. Some rides are five minutes, others an hour and a half plus (on a good day) with train & bus tranfers in between.

You're talking about what people would carry-on at the airport. People keep their textbooks, money, clothes, lunches, medications, etc - whatever they need to get through the day - and you want to take these things away while they ride? And if these are lost or stolen? Think of how much goes missing from bags at the airport and consider the liability.

Young, male and middle-eastern-looking are not behaviors.

First - I didn't say they were NOT Islamic, I said they don't necessarily LOOK that way.

Second - How do you think they acted that morning? Have you got one single report that says they were fidgetting in the airport? Checking over their shoulder? Dressed oddly?

How - exactly - do you think a terrorist acts?

They do NOT all wear long overcoats in August if THAT is what you are thinking. And even if they did, what are you going to look for in January??

    We all get searched.

If we all got to the airports or subways or whatever a little early - the searches wouldn't matter.

They can search me every time I fly if it will help them catch one terrorist or if the knowledge that they ~are~ searching causes one terrorist to "not try it today."

And If you convince the world to profile, and the next bomber fails the profile test, but does kill a few thousand people, are you going to accept responsibilty for telling them not to search even the ones who don't look like a threat?

First, WHO are you addressing? It would help if you would make it clear what remark is addressed to whom. I assume that this one is for cmg.

Assuming that this one is in reply to me: I don't know how they acted as I wasn't there.

I am not a professional profiler, am I? I have not studied how terrorists act - ask the ones who have.

Long overcoats is the goth school kid mass murderer-profile.

At the airport, yes. This is about the subway which is not the same situation.

Even with the searches that we all get (well, maybe not the baggage-handlers and maintenence crew) people have still managed to secret weapons in the airplanes to prove that very point.

The subway is not the airport or whatever. I agree that the searches don't matter except to inconvenience some people for the reasurrance of others.

Do you fly twice or more a day? When you do, then you can compare flying with riding the subway.

Sure, TS, if I convince them not to search 76 year old sedated cripples being transported from one hospital to another and one of them turns out to be a "bomber" (the airplane guys weren't actual bombers, if you remember), I'll accept responsibility.

And have you seen them search a 76 year old sedated cripple being transported from hospital to another?

Young, male and middle-eastern-looking are not behaviors. </font>[/QUOTE]Look, Daisy, I totally agree with you on this issue. I think that the profile of a homocide bomber is a secret but I am merely make a general statement that they are mostly young men, all Islamic, many middle-eastern looking, evidently often annointed with perfume beforehand to expedite their entrance to the presence of Allah, and anxious not to have their fingerprints destroyed by the explosion or their ID in their shoes because they want to be heroes in the Islamic world.

Other than than Daisy, I don't think the public knows. But I think that the Mayor of New York should let the police work and not try to impose this search, which you also object to, don't you? Afterall, most terrorists can count to 5. So my support for you may not be eloquent but it is sincere--OK, Daisy? Are we friends now?

 We agree? How can that be?

Although I do usually oppose your opinion, I like and respect you for sticking to the issues. [IMG]

Thanks for the kind words--rare in cyberspace sometimes--and I extend my admiration to you for writing your viewpoint intelligently. Also, I congratulate you for being ahead of everyone in seeing the waste and futility in searching the subway riders at random and in leading me and others to agree with you.

Because of the war, we know who the enemy is alright.

Besides I have long maintained that liberals are right once in a while. ;)
