President Barack Obama, through a statement posted Wednesday night on the White House website by adviser Valerie Jarrett, backed legislation that would ban parents from having their children counseled not to be what Jarrett called "LGBTQ+".
“As part of our dedication to protecting America’s youth, this Administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors,” Jarrett said in the White House statement.

“Conversion therapy generally refers to any practices by mental health providers that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity,” said the statement. “Often, this practice is used on minors, who lack the legal authority to make their own medical and mental health decisions. We share your concern about its potentially devastating effects on the lives of transgender as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and queer youth.”

Jarrett conceded in her statement that an act of Congress would be needed to pass a national law that prohibited parents from having their children be counselled to be heterosexual rather than what she called “LGBTQ+."

“While a national ban would require congressional action, we are hopeful that the clarity of the evidence combined with the actions taken by these states will lead to broader action that this Administration would support,” Jarrett said.

She suggested that parents disserve their children when they do not accept them as “LGTQ+.”

Excuse me Obama and Valerie Jarrett but we will raise our children in the ways of the Lord and if you do not like it you can stick it up your nose and take a long walk off a short pier.

Valerie Jarrett, the shadow president, has more influence than Dick Cheney ever dreamed of having.

Doesn't get me spun up. I'll reply as I feel led to and won't to those I don't feel led to.

I don't believe that the government needs to be telling anyone what to do with their kids. But if kids are being abused, somebody has to step in.

This type of "therapy" just doesn't sound right. I think this is as dangerous as telling a child you will be a Christian or you will go to law school.

Point them in the right direction, but trying to repair something like this seems counterproductive. And as a follower of Christ, I'd be far more inclined to trust in the Holy Spirit to break such a stronghold than I would a "therapist".

This "therapy" seems like more evidence of man putting his trust in man.

I agree that "therapy" isn't the answer. The issue here is the slipperly slope. Will it become illegal for a pastor to counsel a youth on this subject?

I believe that legally there is a difference between counseling and therapy. Therapy is intended to correct. Counseling is to advise and the person decides for himself.

So I don't think it would affect Christian Counseling.

I was wondering the same thing. Every time I see that list of letters, it seems like it's gotten longer.

Next week it will be LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ.

Explain why you just make stuff up?

Probably because you don't have the correct information but still want to get your two cents in.

Explain why you haven't disproven what I said? I said I believe there is a legal difference. SO please feel free to prove otherwise.

You must work in liberal journalism...

Just make something up and then demand that others disprove it.

How can you speak of a legal difference in a law that hasn't been written yet? Shouldn't you wait until you see some actual legal text before making a decision on whether this law will make a distinction?

I wasn't saying there was a legal difference in the unwritten yet law. I was saying that legally there is a difference between what is considered counseling and what is considered therapy.

It won't become law anytime soon. Obama is just kissing up to one of his most radical constitutuencies.
