God isn't even in the US Constitution, why should His name be in a party platform?

Would this thread have said in 1789 'Constitution Committee Makes Break With God!'?

Frankly it seems a bit hypocritical for any political party in the US to put God in their platform. None of the political parties in the US are really Christian. As we saw with the "family values" folk in the 1990's most of them in their personal lives did not practice what they preached. I do not believe God approves of politicians using his name for their own political gain.

Do you remember Christ's comment about the fellow standing in the temple and publicly displaying what a religious fellow he was?

Words are easy, it is actions that count.

When are we going to realise CTB that it is the words, symbols, and slogans that count, not substance.

As to Jerusalem the words are only words. The US has her Embassy in Tel Aviv for years and neither party nor any president has done anything about it.

Oh yeah, it is words that count, not action. I have to get this straight.

Finally a post we agree on. First of all, referencing a Holy God in the same thought as politicians from either party is enough to deserve a lightning bolt. Politicians are self serving slobs that steal and abuse their power daily. They are liars, lovers of themselves, and basically some of the most evil people on earth. In levels of humanity, they hover around phoney TV preachers.

What is really sad is neither of them really care about abortion or gay rights one way or another. They are tools for vote pandering. Republicans pound the podium about abortion and gay rights, then, when elected, the slaughter and immorality continue. Innocent blood for votes. The Democrats proudly proclaim the virtures of both from the roof tops.

Everyone needs to understand when they choose who to vote for, they are picking from a cess pool.

At least they're making a move to appear less hypocritical.

Could not agree more - using God to score political points is an abomination.

During the primaries, the red flags and whistles were going off all over the place like a tornado warning siren. When one hears a siren such as this goes off with the TV blasting warning of a tornado near, it automatically starts the heart beating a little faster and keeping a close watch on the sky, especially for those who have gone through a storm that destroys houses and communities. After the storm hits, it is too late to do anything about it.

There was plenty of warning that two liberal candidates were going to be the choice. There was an unusually quiet period where not much was said or those that did say something limited it to the tired old argument of the differences between the two parties without giving a second thought to who the actual nominees would be. We have the nominees that the American people chose, either by a vote of the minority who bothered to vote, or by indifference.

Now, voters who believe in running the country by the Contitituion and conservative values find themselves in an impossible situation to justify a vote without a long stretch of their conscience. It comes down to those who choose the Democrat side using the logic of "Obama is no worse than Romney in Massachusetts" or "Romney is not a Christian anyhow." On the Republican side, the logic says "Romney now says he is for defending life and traditional marriage" or "at least Romney ran a company and met a payroll, regardless of what happened to the jobs." Some pin their hopes on the wording of a party platform plank for this or that issue, a document some act like was written by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In fact it was written by politicians that are as far from the two great commandments as any breathing life form could possibly be. My parakeets have more spiritual qualities than such people.

Now, we see thread after thread about Obama and Romney. Most are issues that have no bearing on this election or our nation. It never ends, Romney's lie in his speeches, Obama's birth certificate, blah, blah, blah, etc, etc, etc......... All are empty debates. If I wait one day to pass and observe the list of threads, mine are already on the second page.

Now, at this late date, Republicans who support Romney, Democrats who support Obama, get a small inkling that the choice is only a couple of levels above worthless. Who is to blame? We are. We chose them. We did nothing to work towards decent candidates other than typing posts like this one or sitting in front of a TV and mouth about it for four years.

A small collection on here continue to point out both are anti-Christian, and will either not vote or vote third party. Anyone can make an excellent argument about either of the major party choices being far from spiritual values. One can ask easily, as some threads have pointed out, "How can one be a Christian and be a Republican/Democrat?" Take your choice.

So, is everyone going to continue to do nothing starting from the day Obama wins until 2016 when the Republicans nominate an athiest with Wall Street experience and Biden wins the Democratic nomination, or finally, this time, get the message and get to work?

Aside from apathy, the biggest mistake that is made is somehow using a Holy God as a measuring stick between the two stellar candidates. So we made our bed, now lie in it and the choice is yours. Would you rather get an F or an F+ on your report card?

'The year of our Lord' is simply a date. That crossed my mind, but I really didn't think anyone here would try that one. It is simply a cultural icon of the time. An attempt to make it mean anything more than a date is revisionism at its worst.

There has to be a better answer than that. They left God out of the Constitution - it is that simple.

Dick Durbin was asked about it and he got defensive and attacked Brett Bear. Again thus far the DNC Convention is amateur hour.

Actually, it is a rock solid answer. Had it been their intent to create a secular state they could have said "Common Era" as is said today.

But there is more, the Constitution was expressly designed to "establish justice." Is there justice apart from the law of God? Does God have nothing to say about or to governing authorities?

You are just plain wrong about the whole thing. It was not just an cultural icon of the time. Very sad where our education on the founding of the country has taken us. And it is to bad you are willing to feed that. Very disgusting.

Without God, we wouldn't have such a great constitution. And one day God will destroy the enemies of God who have labored to kick God out of His government.

The Constitution was based on the Justice of God and the Declaration of Independence make that clear especially the first two paragraphs.

Here is the legal definition of "Year of Our Lord,"

The founding fathers were not making a statement of faith when they used the term "Year of Our Lord." There were following convention. The term had been used for centuries and had evolved into convention of stating a date, but not a religious statement.

If they had wanted the government to have been founded on Christianity they would have said so plainly in a sentence or two. They created a totally secular government and did this because of the bad experiences they knew from history and from the experiences of various colonies, i.e. Virginia for one, had experienced. If they had tried to tie the government to Christianity the government would never have come into creation. There was just too much diversity of opinion religiously for they to come to such an agreement.

It has always seemed strange to me that the Pilgrims came to the New World seeking religious freedom and once here refused to allow religious freedom in their colony. Obviously they did not see the contradiction of their policy.

What is truly sad is God's people trying to change history to fit their point of view. The term 'common era' was not even thought of. In my own life time we still used AD and BC, but these were still just leftovers from previous culture.

'In the year of our Lord' was simply a formal way of stating the date AD. It meant nothing more. The very fact that folks have to go this far to force God into the constitution is evidence of the wisdom of the founders in leaving His name out. They respected His name too much to use it as a political ploy.

Here is the beginning of the Irish Constitution -

If a people want God in their constitution that is how they do it - they don't just append a date.

You have made an interesting statement, but I do not believe it will stand under examination. There is nothing in the Bible about democracy, or a constitution, a senate or a house of representatives. I know of nothing in the Bible supporting free speech, the right to bear arms and all the other ideas in the Constitution.

If you can show me differently I would appreciate it very much.

As usual, you have no idea what you are talking about. What is disgusting is a complete lack of historical understanding.
