Obomamania has boosted the economy in Ottawa. Every shop where he or his staff visited have been sold out of every item he purchased. He bought a special necklace that had Canada on one side on a red maple leaf and a moose on the reverse side. Special cookies were baked with Obama's image on it. He bought a dozen to take home, and the shop sold out to-day.

He was a great visitor and did a lot to boost Canadian/American relations, I can tell you. A credit to the USA so far as we are concerned.

I am not commenting on his politics; just the man.

    Cheers, and bless,

    Jim

Quite a few things were made to honour his visit to Canada. He took a few things home with him. Without press coverage, he did a tour of the market area. I guess these things just can't be announced in advance.

    Cheers,

    Jim:thumbs:

[IMG] Aside for the fact he purchased this with the taxes of the American citizen, I bet he did not even pay the fee for bringing that stuff across the boarder.

Uh...he does get a salary from us. You want him to work for free? Cookies and a souvenir necklace...ain't gonna break the bank there.

Pure speculation. And there are personal exemptions before duty is applied:

Personal Allowances for Americans Returning to the US after Less than 48 Hrs:

After a stay of less than 48 hours in Canada, a U.S. citizen or resident may return to the U.S. with:
    • US$200 worth of goods per person, tax and duty free
    • 150 ml (5 oz) alcohol and 10 cigars (non Cuban)
    • Any purchases in excess of the US$200 allowance may be subject to duties and taxes.
    • US citizens may buy these amounts daily.
Personal Allowances for Americans Returning to the US after More than 48 Hrs:

After a stay of 48 hours or more in Canada, a U.S. citizen or resident may return to the U.S. with:
    • US$800 worth of goods per person, tax and duty free
    • Purchases may include 1 liter of alcohol, 200 cigarettes (1 carton), and 100 cigars.
    • Family members may combine their tax and duty allowances.
    • Any purchases in excess of the US$800 allowance may be subject to duties and taxes.
    • US citizens may buy these amounts once a month.

At any rate, my post was to express how well Mr. Obama represented the USA whilst in Canada, and not to invite the garbage talk about the man.

At least he offered to pay for these items, and not just expect them because he was President of the US of A.

I know that one school girl is waving the hand that shook the President's hand proudly on public television. She will remember that for her lifetime.

    God bless Mr. Obama,

    Cheers,

    Jim

Way to go MP, way to quite the minority opposition trying to rain a good celebratory thread. I think it's great to see our leader welcomed by more than a thrown shoe!

Your apparent hate for a man is unbelievable. You can dislike his policies, and what he stands for, but when you start hating the man like you do it becomes very unChristlike.

Yes, his hate is obvious, so sad. :tear:

It is good to finally have a president who understands how important our friends in Canada are. Perhaps he will be able to undo some of the damage this past administration has done concerning our image around the world.

Let me make this quite clear - Jesus Christ is my God, my Savior, my Messiah.

I have become deeply offended by some of my fellow Christians referring to Barack Obama as a "messiah". I have read/heard Obama detractors refer to him as such it must be 99 times for each time I have heard an Obama supporter do so. Some Obama detractors are making absolute fools of themselves.

Also, in the poll you refer to, tt, it asked people whom they regard as a hero. I, personally, regard it to be sacreligious to reduce God to the the status of simply being a hero - like some famous mere mortal. So if I had been asked that question I certainly would not have named God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit.

The hatred that even some people, even some Christians, are exhibiting toward President Obama is horrible to see take place. Of course, they have and will no doubt continue to claim that they don't hate him. Frankly, I no longer believe them when they claim such.

I have been sick for a few days and I see upon my return to interacting on this board that the Obama haters haven't changed their tune.

I guess this is the reason Obama had to clarify the fact that he was not born in a manger...

"Obama joked last year at a roast that contrary to rumors, he was not born in a manger but on the planet Krypton. Apparently, Obama is even more popular than Superman, who didn't make the cut." From above article

It may be possible to like Obama... and still worship Jesus...
But to rank Obama higher than Jesus... or to say that Obama is your hero, instead of saying Jesus is your hero... is simply idol worship.

And many Christians have been very close to this...

Many don't care about his stance on Abortion.. .as long as their pocketbooks are full....

To say that Jesus is a mere "hero" shows that one is, to say the least, spiritually immature, and I would go further and state that one must at least question whether such a person truly believes that Jesus is God.

Ken, one would think that Americans would be pleased that their President represented the USA well in a foreign country and was well received by its citizenry. Especially a country sitting on its border.

I don't care about his politics, but I do care that he be presentable in the public eye. I would say the same for some former presidents like Mr. Carter, Mr. Clinton and even Mr. Reagan.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Tim, you have to see that it was at a 'Roast' where all manner of things are said in jest. That doesn't make it right or wrong, but I know it's not meant to be taken seriously. Have you ever been to a Roast before?

It is.. You can disagree with his politics or his policies, but that doesn't mean you should dislike the man. I see all manners of hate towards Obama when it should be directed towards his policies.

Yes, there can be people that take it too far, but to say you can't have a hero is crazy. I can have a hero AND Jesus in my live. My hero is someone that has caused me to look up to them (my Dad) Jesus and who will save me from this life. There is a difference, but I can have both. Do you not have a hero in this world?

and many of us stand against his policies but still see him as a man, sinful in nature just like you and me.

You guys are doing that exact same thing the left did to Bush. It won't right then and it isn't right now.

And many of us don't support abortion, didn't support this POTUS in the election but understand he is our POTUS, God is in control and things WILL be ok...

I know you know me and understand what I am saying. I don't like seeing you, someone I look up to here on this forum get caught up in the polictics. I know you understand we are all sinners. That God is in control and our faith is in God. He put Obama here for a reason, since we can't do anything about it, let's see what that reason is. Let's work together to fix the problem vers just gripe about it. Let's start at a local and state level to fix things we can.

Americans who love the United States are pleased about that, Jim. I was sick since Tuesday until this morning so I wasn't up to doing much else so I watched a CPAC show from Canada and the press conference with your prime minister. I appreciate your country's graciousness.

Jaime, I'll agree with all you said except for one thing...

When Christians start praising a man or calling that man a hero.. and that man is prochoice.. the Christian has crossed the line.

A Christian will NEVER consider a person a hero that is pro-choice. If they look up to people like that, They are ignoring a big portion of the Bible.

I have heroes.. God honoring heroes.. someone that goes against the Word of God.. and Obama does... will NEVER be my hero...

I may respect the office.. but I refuse to respect a person that thinks aborting babies is OK...

I don't hate him.. I hate his policies.. but when evil policies are put in place by a man, it is hard to seperate his policies from the person...

Jesus said that what a man speaks comes from his heart...

Obama speaks pro death on innocent babies... what is in his heart?

In someways I am glad the world has a new respect for the US>.

But when socialist countries, ungodly countries, and terrorists organizations speak well of us... something is wrong with us...

Thank you Jaime... sometimes I get too caught up in politics...for my own good...

Socialism is not a sin. If it is then being a policeman or a fireman or a public school teacher is a sin.

Some conservatives step over the line by equating their political viewpoints with the gospel of Jesus Christ. They should stop doing so.
