A year after claiming the economy as his own, Obama points finger at predecessor

By Bob Cusack - 08/21/10 12:08 PM ET

President Obama this summer has repeatedly blamed George W. Bush for the nation’s economic woes, a year after he took ownership of the economy and criticized those who “carp and gripe.”

The White House’s effort to tie congressional Republicans to Obama’s predecessor comes less than three months before the midterm elections. But the president’s campaign speeches this summer contrast to a speech he delivered in Michigan last year when his approval ratings were 17 points higher.

During a July 14, 2009, address in Warren, Mich., Obama said, “Now, my administration has a job to do, as well, and that job is to get this economy back on its feet. That's my job. And it’s a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, ‘Well, this is Obama’s economy.’ That’s fine. Give it to me. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe.”

    Carpro my friend.....how are you?

You should be more direct & ask why President Obama hasn't as yet fixed whats broken! They have economists that are perceptive enough to know where the problems are so why haven't he & his administration addressed the issues that are causing the problems? Are we going to wait until we have a recorded 20% unemployment before these Democrats act? Very shameful indeed.

If President Obama does not act decisively & soon, his legacy will be an America in serious economic decline.

A nation that can’t grow enough to take care of its elderly, educate its young or provide a decent future for anyone but Wall Street financiers, Hollywood stars and Washington’s policy elite.

    Perhaps the decline is intentional...

Economics is widely known, especially at the level of the doctors who advise the POTUS. They know that tax cuts stimulate the economy and tax increases do the opposite. They know that government enlargement and the spending that goes with it do not "stimulate" anything except more government. they know that government spending takes dollars out of the economy and that the government produces almost nothing that helps the GDP of the nation (hot air we have plenty of these days without government assistance).

If they are doing all those things, then they are doing them on purpose for a goal as yet un-named to the populace. Of the several potential goals that exist for this sort of direction from the current administration, every one is horrific at the least and treasonous at the end of the day. And, sadly, like other famous "republics" that started with the word "socialist" we voted in the very demise of our people based on undefined rhetoric.

And, just so that other readers and posters don't think that I'm only picking on the current administration, we've been up to our patooties with this issue for quite some time no matter who sat in the big seat.
