On Wednesday, only two days after he lifted President Bush’s executive order banning federal funding of stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos, President Barack Obama signed a law that explicilty bans federal funding of any "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death."

The provision was buried in the 465-page omnibus appropriations bill that Obama signed Wednesday. Known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment, it has been included in the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services every fiscal year since 1996.

The amendment says, in part: "None of the funds made available in this Act may be used for—(1) the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or (2) research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death."

I wonder how that will play out now...

His executive order says that research can be done as much as the law allows...

    And this bill outlaws it...

This will be interesting to see what happens.

I am posting this info on the thread I started dealing with the Executive Order.

I guess this time I'm glad he can't make up his mind.

I do not believe he had a difficult time making up his mind on this. It just sneaked by him unnoticed. You can bet he will try to find a way around it.

It goes to show that these people never read what they sign. In this case it looks to me that God has intervened on behalf of the children yet born. :godisgood:

it also mandates that the government use an all-inclusive definition of “human embryo” that encompasses any nascent human life from the moment that life comes into being, even if created in a laboratory through cloning, in vitro fertilization or any other means.

The word failed is more like a passive error. Obama did much more than that. He opposed the protection of the unborn child and he opposed the protection of the born alive child.

Amen! Now he is in a quandry. Let's see what he does. We can still pray that right will prevail in his heart, that God will change his heart and he will become a follower of Jesus Christ, not the enemy.

Hey, since we have an law that classifies embryos as human life.. How can that be used against the abortion industries...

After all, the most pro-choice president signed into law a bill that states that embryos are alive!

Whew.. .when God does something, He does it right.

If you think about it, the down turn in the economy caused this to get through. All the hasty stimulus bills that are rushed through without them reading a word.  :applause: What we all feared in jobs lost is turned into good toward the most innocent of our society. :godisgood:

This is not what you folks think it is. From HERE
Emphasis mine. In other words, the funding for embryonic stem cell research is separate from experimentation on actual embryos.

Don't you love it when Liberals try to explain away murder...

Embryonic stem cell RESEARCH is experimentation..

And I for one would like to see a prolife group file suit against Obama for this... To force the issue.

I don't understand. You're saying that in signing this bill he failed to protect the unborn. That doesn't make sense since the bill protects the unborn. You're just criticizing Obama for everything he does no matter what.

Bolding different words renders a different meaning from that which you conclude.

“President Barack Obama's announcement Monday that he is overturning his predecessor's policies toward embryonic stem cells also will include a broad declaration that science — not political ideology — would guide his administration,” the AP reports.

Still, the New York Times says Obama “intends to avoid the thorniest question in the debate: whether taxpayer dollars should be used to experiment on embryos themselves.” White House officials said “the president would leave it to Congress to determine whether the long-standing legislative ban on federal financing for human embryo experiments should also be overturned.”

The ban, known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment, first became law in 1996, and has been renewed by Congress every year since. It specifically bans the use of tax dollars to create human embryos — a practice that is routine in private fertility clinics — or for research in which embryos are destroyed, discarded or knowingly subjected to risk of injury.”

My conclusion is the the ban forbids expending federal dollars for reasearch in which embryos are destroyed - such as embryonic stem cell research.

The exact wording... From page 280 of the bill:

Now The Executive Order... Notice the title.. it says
    RESEARCH!

The Omnibus bill forbids funding to RESEARCH... which is what the EO was trying to do...

    Nice try MP...
    BUT read it and weep...

Your precious President Obortion will not get his way.. .because he was so fast in signing the Omnibus bill on Wed.. that he didn't read it!!!

    Ready to lead? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

    HA!
