In the quoted portion of your OP, it tells you how he plans to encourage community service in young people and those over 55.
So he will be giving tax credits to young people and improve programs available for those over 55. Any claims of forced volunteerism is purely in the minds of those who want it to be there so that they can slander someone they do not like.

Wrong. Obama changed the wording on the site which at first included the word "require". Maybe you should get all the facts before you accuse people of slander.

If you would have read this thread before going off haphazardly and posting something denigrating towards me and other non-Obama supporters, you would have seen this post with a link to the "SCREENSHOT" of the Obama web site before it was changed to it's present wording.

Keep in mind, Obama doesn't write the words on his site and there are such things as typo's/mistakes. Forced voluntarism is just hard to imagine even from the government but it wouldn't be any worse than being imprisoned without being charged or a trial.

I would have to say a SUPPOSED screen shot of the Obama site since there is no true way of validating the assertion.

I thought forced voluntarism was the subject of this thread. I simply used it in an analogy.

Yet another example of the inability of libs to find legitimate comparisons.

Actually, you could follow the original link, when this news came out on Little Green Footballs. They had a link to it, then they were the first to discover the switch. They linked to that, as well. They have millions of witnesses, myself included, that the word was "required".

But remember, when you find out he lied about this, how much you appreciated his honesty in being able to break a promise before.....

There were many claims of forced volunteerism before the alleged claims of your WND article were posted. And I would hardly call anything in a WND article as fact.

But even if what the article says is true, I don\'t have much of a problem with it. In Ontario for the past 8 years, high school students have been required to submit 40 hours of community service over the course of their diploma.

    http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/extra/eng/ppm/124a.html

When I first heard about it, I thought it was counter productive to have mandatory volunteer service. But my wife was a high school teacher in Ontario and most of her kids have found it to be a good experience and helped them to consciously think about and practice the concept of civic responsibility. I think if a high school education includes the concept of civic responsibility, it is not too much to ask students to have a practical assignment show some evidence of understanding the concept.

Those students that were not keen on volunteering would usually find some simple way to fulfill the hours with something they normal did anyway. The Christian kids I taught at church were already involved with church ministries and simply had it officially recognized. I think the purpose was to show kids how easy and satisfying it can be to volunteer and give to others and it does achieve that goal. The high school kids currently in my church in Ontario are much more active members of their society and joyful givers than the kids were when I was in high school.

I think requiring this of college students and people over 55 is not useful and this is reflected in Obama\'s policy of not making it a requirement but a something that is encouraged with incentives.

We do not do things that way in the States and most people will not put up with it.

Not what I was saying. We do not force service on anyone. That would be unconstitutional and anti-American

I don't believe this is true, but even if it is, what law are they breaking? And besides, since when is it a bad thing if people are going to work, coming home, getting something to eat, getting some sleep, and starting over the next day, since when is that a bad thing? How is it that taking care of you and yours causes problems? In fact I know some people that are out volunteering that should be at home taking care of their wife and children.

And just where is this lack of volunteerism going on? I go into the hospital and I see volunteers everywhere. I had to go on a waiting list before I could become a volunteer at a nursing home because there are so many volunteers there. Same thing with the local senior citizens council.

All this talk about volunteering must be the invention of city folks. Where I come from, we never talked about it, we just did it. We didn't have to have no government program. Whether it was a car broke down, or a storm-damaged house, or a someone sick, or a funeral, you name it, we just helped each other out. I don't get you city folk. You gotta have a government program to help anybody out. Shame.

I don't doubt you but I didn't see it and the only prof presented is from a blog.

Either way, I still say Obama doesn't type his own website so there could be unintentional typo's and misprints...

Nope, I was pretty clear what I said which was what I saw in the OP. Someone linked the SUPPOSED picture from some site but these are the same folks still questioning his citizenship. What next, he's not really over 35 or perhaps his mother is not his mother?

    Pastor Mitchell,

Do you have an answer to my question in post #60 in this thread?
