OK. I'm no supporter of Obama. I don't like his policies at all. I think he's bad for this country. I also think it's a shame that Christians attack a person because of their name. Can a person help what his parent's named him? Should I poke fun at or question the heritage of the Iraqi missionary my church supports just because he has a name that many muslims do? Is any person, even if they have a "muslim" name, less loved by God?

Let's keep a Christian attitude about things, ok?

I agree, even a Muslim can repent and be saved... What's in a name?

Most Muslims who repent and are saved by Jesus Christ also change their name, because the name they have is connected to their previous Muslim faith. (I got this info from a Lebanese Christian man about 26 years ago. He knew, because he had been a Muslim and converted the Christ! He had been a Christian for most of his 78 years, and was well-respected by the Muslim neighbors he had. He even had an active Christian witness to senior military leaders in a Muslim-ruled country!)

As to Obama's middle name, we do live in a different culture here in the USA, and his name should make no difference. I will continue to pray for our President, regardless of what his name may be and regardless of political affiliation.

    Bill :godisgood:

I am so ashamed. My middle name is Gene, and will be associated with Gene Gene the Dancing Machine on the Gong Show.

I am curious over your statement about changing their names when they become Christian. I have met a number of Arab Christians at the seminary in Prague and have yet to meet one who said they changed their name. Thinking about it I have not met a Christian Arab named Mohammad. But then, again, Mohammad is just a name also.

There are some very pro-Israel people on the BB that would be upset at the views of Arab Christians when they talk about how they are treated by the Israeli government, even though they were born in Israel and are Israeli citizens. They say that many Israelis seem to have a particular hatred for Arab Christians. I have not see this firsthand. But it is a consistant message from the Arab Christians I have met.

I don't have a middle name. Bitsy is enough to deal with.

I've said it before: He didn't pick his own name. And I have every confidence if he chose one, there would be something wrong with the one he chose.

Now this is so funny!.......... NOT

Are you speaking of Barrack Hussien (Yes Rev, you can say this now, and the Dem. party goons wont pressure the police to harrass or arrest you, neither here in Florida where you live, or in Missouri...... like they did to people during the primary)Obama?

Can you understand? DO YOU NOW UNDERSTAND?

That was what was happening: T.V., radio, individuals.... questioned and even more reacted to the name Husseirn, that it had nothing to do with the name..... but how people will let another's name dropping stir them up so much about nothing. But it is something..... a real big something ..... when a person with a legal name (or those within his campaign) either wants to deny or hide it or censor, harass or arrest, those who use it.
    ---------------
Even on this board, his name was really no issue beyond one or two who might question if there was significance. (What's wrong with that? God gave us curiosity. A forum is a place to safely exchange opinion ....But it is 'funny' to watch, pitiful even, at how quickly defensive or angry others get........ and by their own defense they reveal that they themselves had bias content in their thought as they defend a name, and take an offense of accusing those who use the name..... when it is BHO legally recognized name. )

I think it is strangely funny that this OP is remarkably characterized to Christians as though this is characteristic and group behavior, and without pointing to a particular link, or expressing better just what and when did a brother or sister in Christ set you off regarding a man's legal name, you blast a whole group of believers?

Very hard to ignore the irony in the president elects name... But I suppose that's politically incorrect thinking....

More than one person on this board go to great lengths to point out Obama's middle name at every opportunity. I didn't feel like calling out these individuals and engaging in an arguement with them. No, I don't believe that Christians as a whole do this. It's only a handful of people.

I'm sure glad Jesus didn't hold the woman at the wells heritage against her :).

He could change it, just like he changed his name from Sottero.

A bigger question: Is he really a US citizen? Which has never been resolved by the Obama team by producing the Original Embossed Birth Certificate from the time of his birth supposedly in that hospital in Hawaii, and could have easily been put to rest if they had one, which apparently, they don't. But the Constitution is dead anyway. (sigh)

Matt, it's not his heritage that is held against him. It is his terrorist ties and his socialist agenda. He's a socialist AND has voted in favor of infanticide while in the Illinois senate in addition to being pro-abortion, no matter what name he calls himself. :tear:

    1. Barack Obama has no terrorist ties. That was a campaign talking point by right-wingers that fell flat.

    2. If he has a socialist agenda, then good.

    1) Why? Because right-wing Christians think he should? That's a very silly argument.

My middle name is Ing. Should I change it to satisfy right-wing Christians who might accuse me of being a Chinese Communist?

    2) Yes, he is. This was a campaign talking point by right-wingers and at least one disappointed Hillary Clinton supporter that fell flat.

I have absolutely no problem with people bringing up valid issues about Obama. Like I said, I don't like his political views. I didn't vote for him. I could care less what the man stand for, if he is pro-abortion he would never get my voite. I wish he wasn't our president. My point is that he shouldn't be attacked because of his name.

The Constitution is not dead - it has worked. Every court has refused the spurious claim started by the same Hillary loving lawyer who wanted the world to arrest George Bush.

Our Constitution will not be sullied by silly lawsuits.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe some of them do it because it seems to tick you off?

You see I don't see anything wrong with the name Hussein! But it pushes your buttons for some reason...... and some just like seeing people react who are so easily pushed. My suggestion is easier said than done.... I need exercise in this myself: Stop letting your buttons stick out so they don't get pushed so easily!:flower:

    Hussein, Hussein, Hussein,
A rose by any other name
    To all who meet
    Whether stinky or sweet
    Would still smell the same.
