A new Fox News poll released last week shows that 84 percent of the insured rate their insurance as excellent or good. Another 13 percent rate their insurance as fair, and only 3 percent rate it as poor. With those numbers, it isn't surprising that Americans want to keep their private insurance policies.

Lots of discussion in that article. They don't even show the actual poll.

But bounce that fact against the large number polled that support the public option http://citizenactionny.org/2009/08/public-opinion-and-the-public-option/867

What we have is a conclusion that is not a strait forward and simple as the articles author would like us to believe. What they stated was one fact in the midst of a complex maze of facts.

They are using old poll data here - before the details of the bill were known to the general public.

Can you show us the most recent numbers?

No he cannot for two reasons. One the recent data doesn't support it. He has been quoting that number for a while. Two lack of intellectual honesty.Hanging on to that old number doesn't lend to that either.

On top of all that, the final bill has not passed either House. The bill is subject to change before it passes either House, then again in a conference committee, if it gets that far. It could be radically different in its final form than what we perceive now. It may not pass at all.

And this is important why? We do not need to wait until it does pass to talk about it and the bad information the Admin is putting out. That would be to late.

Why? Because one cannot argue against an unknown. One can be actively against it in a general sense, but we have no idea what the final form will be. I will agree with you that no matter what form it takes, a government run health care system is a disaster for this country.

We can argue against the information being put out about it by the same people who are working to craft it.

Americans when asked simple questions without specific details are not the sharpest tacks in the box. They proved that by electing a Marxist, which Joe the Plumber demonstrated, for president. I predict he will be lucky if not asked to resign before his first term is up. The only ability this person has demonstrated is to make it easier for people in foreign countries to get abortions at the taxpayers expanse.

    1. He had nothing to do with the stimulus bill except sign it and then lie about.

    2. He had nothing to do with the cap and tax that passed the House but lie about it.

    3. So far he has had nothing to do with health care reform except lie about it.

    4. This marxist did illegally fire a GM executive.

Beyond that he is a zero other than being a liar and the father of liars.

We should be developing targeted solutions for those who are without insurance/health care for no fault of their own.

There is no need to be fundamentally changing the entire health care system.

Unless of course you just want that system even though there is no need because of socialist ideology.

No, but you can show me more recent numbers against.

My numbers show that going into this thing there was strong support for the public option. Where Obama is loosing support is two places, for one it appears he is caving to the blue dogs and leaning more toward co-ops. We didn't vote him in for co-ops, we put him there and gave him a supermajority in congress because they promised a public option. We will not settle for a co-op and the Democrats will pay dearly in the next election if we don't get our promised public option so I hope those blue dogs accept that fact that they may be sacrificed for the good and longevity of the democratic party.

Second place is seniors, the lie about euthanasia has penetrated with the seniors and they are leaping ship. This would be okay and democracy in action if they were leaving because of something actually in the bill that they oppose, however, it is fraud perpetrated by the right when they have scared away the seniors with lies and misrepresentations.

You nailed the democrats problem on the head, their current duty is to defend a bill that doesn't exist. It's a lot easier for the right since all they do is make up stuff and scare people about what MIGHT in the bill or what some guy wrote about in 96 but the democrats are at a disadvantage since they have nothing to defend.

This is why Obama wanted something passed by the August recess, so they could go to these meetings and discuss the actual legislation instead of defending something that doesn't exist.

Well that would be helpful wouldn't?

Pass the bill first and then ask the people how they feel about it.

Baloney! What is being addressed and in fact questioned is the misinformation put out in the recent far left media blitz. Pretending that that does not matter because no official bill has yet been created is intellectually dishonest.

There you go again OR, the rest of us are dull tacks because we don't agree with you. I am ok with spreading the wealth and since we each have one vote, those who don't mind what he said won...

They now have a term for this, it's called "pull a Palin".

You should probably say this at the next right wing meeting since you couldn't tell by the way they attack him on these bills.

Bush gave the guy a deadline to come back with a viable plan to survive. He failed. Tax payers were into the company for billions because of Bush, so what would you propose Obama do? Send him back and give him more time to come up with another plan??? Call for a board meeting???

I agree what he did was not the governments function to do but given the the cards he was handed he showed true leadership by doing what must be done.

If what was decided was that far off target it can be voted down when it goes for full vote. The meetings now would also be helping guide the final bill since we could be discussing specifics from each proposal. We put the good in the final and leave the rest on the cutting room floor.

so yes, that would be helpful...
