"To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked.
The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.”

This is the sort of thing that one expects of a third world dictator - not from the President of the United States.

This looks to be a very important trip...

"Adding to the Obamas’ busy schedule is Michelle’s likely visit to Kamathipura, where she will meet commercial sex workers on the invitation of an NGO."

Reminds me of Ferdinand Marcos, the Philippine dictator, and his wife.
They have this long retinue of escorts.
Have it from reliable sources he once sent a Philippine Air Force plane all the way to France to buy ice cream and cakes for a daughter, don't know which one.
Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore back then used to travel by commercial plane, without too many escorts.
His minister of health used to pedal bike from his house to work.
But, then, again, there's a big difference between them and Mr. Obama's security situation, too.
Could that be what is possibly causing all these expenditures ?

What the problem? The US has plenty of money.

There's a joke about Democrat policy here...but it's so obvious that there's no need for me to even use it.

Isn't it obvious that most Americans cannot specify what the obvious is?

    Sorry folks

as much as I'd rather McCain presidency, I know full well if he was making the trip the bill would be the same. When the POTUS moves around the world so does his core office staff. With to day's communication technology, the POTUS is never out of touch. And remember, while India can be considered friendly, it's located in a dangerous region. Would you rather he and his got killed because of your cheese paring?

It's India folks, it's only going to cost $29.95 once the entourage is on the ground.

Now for the real question: What leader will Obama bow to on this trip?
