LOL. Asked my wife for a cute retort about menopause . . and she said "IT'S NO JOKE."

Then she smiled and said, "THAT was the joke".

    Otay.

I swear my 2-year old grandson must be learning to talk from Gabby Hayes!

If your definition of codger stands, What are women doing here?

The official definition of codger, however, is: A person, especially an old or strange one. Oxford Dictionary. It comes from the word cadge, which mans beggar.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Don't really worry about the dictionary. Started the thread with what the word meant 700 years ago!

BTW, Jim or Barnabas - could you tell us what it meant before that, when you were young? [IMG]

Barnabas and Jim are not "old" - they're just age challenged!

Dan - still a pup! -- when compared to Barnabas - Jim - and Dr. Bob!

    So Diane,

We won't be seeing you anytime soon - wearing just one sequined glove?

    Dan - If I can't have both sequined gloves - I won't wear either!

    Jim,

I may ask for stuff with a great deal of force - but I'll not beg!

Dan - begging is not beneath me!

I am being careful what I say about old people. I may be old myself oneday.

The fact that we must add "old" to the word "codger" indicates that it does have another meaning, and that meaning is "beggar" according to Oxford authorities, and what can be more English than English?

When one's yes go buggy at the site of pie, and the tongue hangs from mouth, I would consider that begging.

    Cheers,

    Jim

One interesting question might be, "when did you realize that YOU were an old codger?" For me, it came when the clerks at the grocery store starting calling me 'sir', when a little 3 year old boy, sitting at a table next to me at a restaurant, asked his Mom, "is that Santa?", and when the clerk at the Motel 6 in South Dakota said, "Sir, are you a member of AARP?" Geez, it's tough growing old! [IMG]

I had my light brown hair turn prematurely gray in my late 40's. Used to get a big charge out of being offered a "senior discount" at Hardees. Save a nickel on a cup of coffee. Only a "senior" would think that a great deal!

Now I'm 55 and thinking about Grecian Formula. Hey, does that stuff work?
