    Was listening to a CBC radio show yesterday. The host made the comment that one could tell a lot about a person by the condition of a public restroom after he/she has used it. At first, I did not think much of it but now believe that to some extent he was right. I started to think about other often-overlooked indicators to a person's character or ethic.

    A few that I have thought:

    1. A person's treatment of animals, especially his/her pets or livestock. I have long thought this.

    2. The condition of the restaurant table after dining. Is it needlessly trashed, creating more unnecessary work for the staff?

    3. Consistent punctuality. (Employers will appreciate this one.)

    Any thoughts or additions?

    Those are some good observations, Rolf.

    In addition, just from my own observations, you can tell alot about a person by how they engage with others in conversation:
    1. Do they genuinely listen or do their eyes wander and are they thinking about their next response. (And you can tell when people are doing this)?
    2. Do they ALWAYS "correct" what others have to say?
    And at the various schools where I taught, you could always tell a lot about the teachers and principals by how they treated the secretary and the custodians.

    Most of this Brother is showing consideration for another's life & feelings. Do we consider life (both human & animal) to be something precious or to be ignored....IE do we care, because I believe that the way we treat everything reflects on our own character. Ive also begun to hold to "how we do one thing is how we do everything".....watch & see my friend if it is not true!

    That's a very good point and I also think you can judge somebody by the way they will treat everybody equally. While a person might hold a position of power, the owner of a business for example, if they treat the cleaner or gardener in the same way they'd treat one of the director's of the company, that tells me a lot about that person.

    As a teenager I worked for 2 1/2 years in several positions at a Dinner Theatre. As janitor/grounds maintenance I can attest to the much worse condition women generally left the restrooms than men.

    When I was a teenager, I worked as an overnight stock person at a Winn Dixie in Mandarin, FL. It fell on the stock crew to clean the restrooms before the store opened. The ladies restroom was always the worse.

    My wife sells Tupperware. I think she does it for the fun of it and all the free stuff she gets. I do like the camo cups I got out of the deal. She and three of her friends got together to do a joint party. While there she ran into an old friend of ours. I'll call her Barb. They got to talking and Barb shared that she was having a hard time at work. She said her boss is very belligerent and humiliates her in front of the other workers. This poor lady is almost 60. Who in their right mind does this to someone. My wife asked her where she worked. Ends up she works at a place that one of our church members works. When my wife asked her if she knew Mrs. So & So, Barb looked at my wife and said, "That's my boss. She goes to church?"

    I know Barb and Mrs. So & So very well. I've worked side by side with both of them in the church. Both have loving spirits and I would consider them both to be upright. Someone once told me don't ever get on the bad side of Mrs. So & So because she has a horrid temper. In 5 years of knowing this lady I've never seen it and would think it would be totally out of her character to do anything like it. Also, in the 18 years I've known Barb, I've known her to be kind, considerate and one who truly loves the Lord.

    What I get out of that story is "I" need to make sure I'm doing everything possible to make sure that other people see God's presence and power in my life in everything I do.

    There's a time and place for everything:

    1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
    2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
    3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
    4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
    5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
    6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
    7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
    8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Ecc 3

    If someone's looking only for healing when it's time to kill, or praise when a jolt of rebuke is needed for a wake up, no way they're going to see 'God's presence and power' in it, No such thing as pleasing everyone at all times. Simply not possible.

    Kyredneck... Do you feel this is because our Mothers taught us to pick-up and clean up after ourselves?... Then after we got married our wife took over?... Just asking from a male point of view!... Brother Glen

    Well, I've thought about and talked about it and my wife's two cents worth is that women are so used to having to do the cleaning that they [sub-conscientiously?)] take advantage/are unmindful of a situation where other's are going to clean after them, or something along those lines.

    One of my pet peeves is people who are always late. It's never acceptable. If you are always late, it just shows that you are a very irresponsible person who is very insensitive of other people's time.

    Well, I think it's something else entirely.

    • The women's room sees far more traffic. Women, especially pregnant women, have to go more on average than men.
    • Plus, young children go in the women's room with their mothers. You KNOW how they leave the toilets. :rolleyes:
    • And babies are changed in there on the changing board.
    • Women use FAR more toilet paper.
    • There are other products that are use there and the disposal for those products is small and always full.
    • Women also comb their hair in the bathroom, re-apply make-up there, and have to dig around in their suitcases .... er, purses .... to FIND the comb, brush, hairspray, and make-up bag.
    • With all of that going on, it's a wonder the ladie's rooms are as clean as they are! :p

    I have always thought that you can tell a lot about a person by the way their treat their parents or the elderly. I, also, agree with how a person treats animals also.

    The types of books one reads is also a good indicator.
