That sounds like how a friend of mine does his multi-campus church. The pastors all sit down during the week to work out the message outline together and then the individual pastors put together the message for their own delivery. It takes a LOT of planning but with a good leader and a good team, it works out well.

No, we don't do that. Each campus has their own messages. Hubby just started a series on James called "It Makes a Difference".

    Church planting 101:

    1. A local church decides to plant another church.
    2. The site of the church plant is selected.
    3. The pastor and staff are selected and commissioned by the sending church.
    4. It is understood that the church plant will be an autonomous local church from inception, not a satellite location.
    5. Any assistance from the sending church is with the proviso of #4.
    6. The church plant should seek to replicate when able.

2nd. baptist in Houston has either 3 or 4 campuses, although I have never been I understand you have a choice to sit with the local Pastor or go to another room and listen to Ed Young on the big screen. again that is only what I have heard.

Nearly twenty years ago, Mrs Rolf and I belonged to a church that had two locations. The satellite had its own assistant pastor who preached on Sundays. He was subject to the senior pastor. Eventually, he became unhappy with the arrangement and tried to cause a church split. He was kicked out quickly by the church.

As long as the two locations consider to be, in their minds, one church; they are. I think that separation ought to occur when one (church in the minds of the members) becomes two.

Just curious - what did happen to that Assist pastor?

How can they be one - by meeting in different locations?

That's worse than listening to a pastor on a screen, imo. Because now you have a man (or group of men) dictating what should be preached instead of the Holy Spirit.

Are there different Holy Spirits telling people different things? I have seen over and over again where the Spirit works through different people towards the same goals. I have no doubt that He can speak to the pastoral staff and lead them towards the topic that He wants and even have the fine-tuning done for the particular congregation they are speaking to.

He was sacked for trying to cause discord.

Why cannot they be one if the members decide so?

Really, it's not much different than attending different services. :)
