    1 Timothy 3:2
    A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

    Catholic:

According to II Tim.3:16,17, does the word of God make us complete unto
    a. Some good works
    b. A few good works
    c. Many good works
    d. Every good work.

What spiritual need of man does God NOT address in the Bible?

According to II Tim. 3: 16,17, can a man be completed unto every good work by that which is incomplete? If yes, How do you know?

Mat.26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
    27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

    W Putnam:
The authority to forgive sins is God's Mark 2:7. Jesus is affirming the authority of God to forgive sins. If you forgive sins, they have already been forgiven by God who has the authority to do so. If a man's sins are not forgiven, it is by the same authority they are retained.
This is spoken in context of Jesus sending his disciples to teach the conditions of forgiveness. A prelude to Mark 16:15,16. see Verse 21. Jesus was sent to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10, Luke 4:14-21. The disciples were sent to do the same. Mat. 28:18-20, Mark 16:15,16.
The breathing of the Holy Spirit upon them( verse 22) represents the word of God accepted and obeyed that produces life. At this point in time it was symbolic of the comming of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1-4, as this was the last week of Jesus'life depicted in John 20. John 6:63, John 12:48, II Cor. 2:15,16, John 6:63, Romans 6:17,18, I Cor. 4:15, James 1:18,21, I Pet. 1:23.
This passage harmonizes with Mat. 28:18-20, Mat. 16:19, Mat.18: 18.

Mat.16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

I would venture that you have heard the Baptist take on it already. ;)

Cutting and pasting verses together that you like while ignoring others is also dangerous. If you would like to argue the particulars of a specific doctrine, please feel free to start a thread and do so. This thread, however was made to help collect a list of single verses that are used to support doctrines that don't have any other scriptural support for them.

    Thanks!

AND THIS ONE, wouldn't fit the above requirement made by Lorelei.

This verse is supported by the 3 that follow it, and the 100+ throughout the rest of the Bible.

    Nice try though.

    God Bless

(1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV) Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

    Lorelei:
I actually typed all those verses myself. Plus, they address the question and are relevant to the answer about one verse wonders. It is called gathering relevant information ( data collection) on a topic. This is what I did in addressing the question of one verse wonders and truth.
I was not trying to begin a different discussion. I was making a point about the list itself. The purpose of which was to show the error of using one verse to declare truth. Ther are others who have posted one scripture as being suported by others. Why do you object to me doing the same at the exclusion of others? If the post is in accurate, please feel free to show me the error.

You typed a lot of commentary about them.

The question was what verses are used, not what do you think about it.

The data I am trying to collect, is what actual verses are used, not a person's spin on them. Again, the question wasn't what did you think, but what verses are used.

I wanted the list to speak for itself. I am actually compiling these verses for some research of my own. It has not other agenda than that.

The others are not adding in their commentary, they are simply quoting scripture, or revealing how certain examples were not "One Verse" doctrines.

There, did that clear things up?

I like to watch people play these "cut and paste games".

    And they have "many rules".

For example - any text that does not have a duplicate near it.

Any text that is not repeated in the Gospels.

Any text that is not repeated after the Gospel account of the resurrection.

Any text that is not by Paul.

Any text that is in the book of Revelation.

Any text that is in Genesis 1-7.

The cut and paste rules are endless.

    In Christ,

    Bob

Here is one of those 'stand alone' verses.

It is TOTALLY taken out of Context to prove something VERY popular.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

    And very false.

    Oh....

    Here's another one.

Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

    God Bless
