We once attended a church that posted the subject line above on posters and hung them all over the church. Needless to say we don't attend there anymore. What do you think about this?

    Did #100 get a prize?

Well maybe they should have used better wording but probably meant they were rejoicing on how many got saved! Of course, that's coming from a member of a church that always goes over 100.

    S&T:

It is God's job to count souls, not mans, since He is the only one who knows who is truly saved...

    S&T, now that's silly!

Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

Of course we rejoice over the kids who are saved during AWANA and parents who come in and ask what's all this stuff their kids are learning. The angels rejoice so why shouldn't we?

Acts 4:4 However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

    Diane,

I do not get your point. Those were scriptures that you quoted. All scripture is inspired by God, so God was doing the counting. We are to rejoice I agree, but we are not to think that we did anything.

Yep, those were scriptures! We finally agree on something! Wow~ I am amazed. It's a miracle!

God was doing the counting and the apostles counted and reported numbers. Guess it's not some mortal sin then! ;)

No one said 'we' saved anyone. No one.

Noooooooooo...God was counting, and the apostle Luke, who was under His authority reported under inspiration of the Holy Spirit what God wanted said. That is why 66 books that were written by different men at different times all line up perfectly. Now THAT is a miracle !

Actually, Diane, there were other problems in the church. A pastor who tried to be number one in Oklahoma and in the top 100 in the nation for growth (resume--you know). He's now building a new church on the highway where everybody can see it and only about 53% voted for it. I think I would have a problem wondering why over 40% of my members didn't feel it was God's will and hold off on the program for more prayer. It was sad, because it was all politics. I didn't leave because of the sign, the sign was a sign a deeper issues. [IMG]

Yeah, the 100th got "poured" instead of immersed. He was handicapped, but that is a whole other subject thread. (Actually, I don't think he was the 100th, but it is another interesting question to ponder.)

In some churches baptisms do not always represent souls saved. It may mean people who joined the church and were baptized somewhere else.

One church I pastored, regularly had a practice of baptizing someone if they were not baptized in another Baptist Church and wanted to join the church. I didn't know this and they did not inform me. But when the issue came up I told the deacons that I was baptized in a non-denominational church by and Independent Baptist pastor. You should have seen the look on their faces! My wife was baptized in the Pacific Ocean by an Evangelical Free Church pastor. They were dumbfounded. I just hit them with some real theology and they didn't know how to react except in silence.

I would be more excited to see the SBC "rate their churches" by the number of people having a consistant quiet time every morning and the number of folks they witness to every day....not how many bodies we can get out of bed every Sunday morning for an hour!

for those that were saved as a result of witnessing in that church I rejoice. For the fact that they want to witness enough so that at least 31 more people in thier area get saved great.
I surely hope and am sure this is being done for the glory of God, I would hate to think otherwise.
"Where there is no vision the people perish". Perhaps the signage is there to give the people a vision.

Why just 100? Why not 200? Or, make it 75 and they will only have 6 more to go!!

Why not just stay in our own little group and let the rest of the world figure things out for themselves? Why not throw out the great commission and every other part of the Bible that ask you to do anything except stay in your comfortable little niche?
