Okay, maybe this is old news, but it's new news to me! I really wanted to see this movie, but I don't think I could with a good conscience. The lead actor has a website and it clearly states he is openly gay. I'm truly disappointed.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--“End of the Spear,” a film opening in theaters nationwide Jan. 20, recounts one of the most extraordinary chapters in the modern missionary movement.

Yet it has become an unexpected example of the nation’s culture war, with an actor who is a homosexual activist playing its lead character.

Yep, you can find several threads here with the same three or four people arguing about this issue.

You could just get the new Steve Saint book of the same title and read that, or read "Through Gates of Splendor" if you never have. Reading is probably better for us than watching movies anyway. I do wish they had chosen a different actor, but I haven't decided whether I want to go see it, or wait for the DVD, or just skip it altogether.

Thanks, whatever. I'll check out those resources and while I'm at it, I think I'll just skip all the arguing over the issue. I don't even know WHY there should be any discussion over this between Christians. I saw on the internet some quotes from Chad Allen. He has travelled from the Catholic church, to Hinduism, to Buddhism, to Native American worship. To be fair, the producers supposedly did not know he is gay before they cast him in the part. But I don't see why they didn't recast, especially if they are Christians themselves.

Since we have an abundance of threads on this issue, this thread is being closed.
