In reference to a thread topic, "Is overeating a sin," in Baptist Debate forums, this is a poll about overeating and the condition of being overweight.

Calling people stupid and lazy is offensive.

    I agree, donna.

I know many fat people, including myself, who could work circles around many skinny people.

Fat people are also smarter than skinny people. Would you like to know why?

Because we sit on our rears all day eating and watching Jeopardy.

Go along with you two if "fat” is defined as overweight, but not if defined as obesity coupled with the terms “patient unable to function normally within the home, or workplace attributable to excessive body weight”.

I’m having a Russell Stover Chocolate Turtle before turning in. It didn’t take me over 2 minutes this morning to button my pants. The button is still holding. Christian faith, ituttut Galatians 1:11-12

My daughter has been going to a doctor to find out what is wrong with her she is putting on weight, but her eating habits have not changed. They have checked thyroid, dibetes(sp)...ect. All test come back normal. We are all stumped as to where the weight is comming from since she exercises daily and eats healthy. So in her case overeating is not accually the case why people gain weight. Although I on the other hand "used" to eat all day (overeat) and drink chocolate milk shakes to try and gain weight. (I guess I had high motabilizim(sp?) maybe?) Now that I've quit smoking over a year ago I can now say that I'm not a bean pole any more and I'm more aware of what and how I eat. [IMG] But if theres chocolate.... don't get in my way! [IMG]

So were you one of those people who just doens't gainw eight, untill you quit smoking?
See before you were over eating but were not over weight. Yet your daughter does not overeat and is over weight.
So people over weight are not necessarilly the one eating too much. Even skinny people over eat. Isn't it just as bnig of a sin for them or is it only if you are overweight?

Has anyone even considered what people eat as being a sin also, not just eating too much? Like destroying the temple(your body) is not just over eating.
    Burgers and fires
    chips
    donuts
    cookies
    chcolate milk
    sodas
    fried foods
high amounts of sugar, fat, carbs
Before pointing fingers, clean out your own eye.

If this poll shows nothing else, it does show the effect of long-time customs in regard to eating and drinking. While most seem to recognize that overeating is a real problem or weakness-- but not necessarily a sin-- most still seem to think almost anything goes on the subject of food. Not one food item on the question of what is alright to bring to a church dinner has less than 57% vote (after 14 votes). "Causing a brother to stumble" seems to have no meaning in relation to fats, sugars, cholestrols. But 14% or less think beer or wine is alright for a church dinner, including the artificial types without alcohol.

That brother you may be thinking of, that you don't want to cause to stumble, has both a heart and a liver. If either one goes, the other very soon follows.

I used to be the size of a half ton truck. Then I lost 263 pounds and I was smaller but not concidered skinny. I was feeling great about my weight loss until a doctor told me that I needed to lose 50 more pounds for my build. Well I had a few chioce words for him. I guess what upset me the most was that I had come so far and it still was not good enough for the doctor that wanted me to look like Miss Anorexia. I did go on to lose 20 more pounds and I felt that I looked too thin. I eat small meals through out the day now and I feel great about my diet.

(I did not vote in the poll. I thought it very demeaning. No one knows why another person overeats.)

    WOW! That is amazing blessedmama!

You should post on our Diet Thread and tell us how you did that.

There are many of us that are 'yo-yoing' and others who are losing pounds daily.

It is a great thread to post our praises, disappointments and also get encouragement when we 'mess up'...

Perhaps a different angle on this

God put forth a judgement(condition) on us that man/woman
must work by the sweat of their brow.

Of course back in our countrys agrarian society
with visions of steam tractors and men and women
doing field work it was a given that you ate
a lunch at high noon and it was a cornacopia of
home cooked food that probably equaled 10,000
calories a sit down, but you knew by the end
of the day by the sweat of your brow you would
be burning all that fuel up even while you slept.

I have done hard field work growing up in Nebraska
    hauling hay..shoveling grain...detassle corn..
was always fed really well and ambundantly but
I would literally be drenched at the end of the
day to the point of my shirt and pants would be
salt caked. I actually lost weight but put
on muscle which acts as a fire place to burn
calories...hard work also conditions your pace
or metabolism..you are actually programed to
go at a certain pace or threshold.

My observation is this in this new day of sit
down cubicle work for a lot of people.
We really do not work by the sweat of our brow
or our fuel intake does not match cubicle work
for those of us that do that sort of thing now.

    So what is the solution:

Do we eat according to our work that is to say
fuel to match the job. I see that as almost
impossible and monumental to over come, I suppose
    it could happen.

But for me personally it means exercise or what
ever you might enjoy that causes you to burn(sweat of your brow)calories or the fuel you took in that day.

I cannot run like I used to because of worn out
knee shock absorbers:) but I like to swim, hit on
a heavy bag(that really makes you sweat)plant and
    work a vegetable garden.

I have a lot of compassion with those who are
overweight today because they live in times
that do not demand you to work by the sweat of
your brow and the processed foods are enormous
in calories that may not be the best of fuels.

I do not like to use the word curse as to what
God placed upon us..but I see it as a blessing
on how to meet His conditions, and again I have
observed and felt once you have done that hard
work or that 1 mile swim or put in 2 or 3 hours
into your garden you have a satisfaction and
a peace about yourself you have worked by the
sweat of your brow and now its time to celebrate
    "Please pass the mash potatoes"

    sincerely: Aslanspal
