"Computerized models of the Earth's climate are at the heart of the debate over how policymakers should respond to climate change. Global climate models (GCMs)--also called general circulation models--attempt to predict future climate conditions by starting with a set of assumptions about how the climate works and making guesses about what a future world might look like in terms of such factors as population, energy use, and technological development."

"Numerous analysts have pointed out, however, that many of the assumptions used in modeling the climate are of dubious merit, with biases that tend to project catastrophic warming. As a consequence, these analysts argue, climate models have many limitations that make them unsuitable as the basis for developing public policy."

Nothing indicates the Polar Bear is heading for extinction. In fact the true evidence points in the other direction.

Kind of like predicting the weather isn't it? The computer is no better than the information we feed it and the programmer. However we evacuated southern LA based on predictions and the storm hit land with far less intensity than predicted.... I still think the evacuations was a great precaution in light of the alternative.

    That response was at RBell...

"There is no scientific evidence for your allegations."

Or are you siding one way or another based on computer models?

Good point. Of course they do have much better luck predicting weather within a week than say 25 years from now

Is it the same computer that can't pinpoint a hurricane 3 days away? I'm supposed to build a society on that?

    Huh. Probably runs Vista.
