Palin hires attorney for Troopergate investigation

By STEVE QUINN – 22 minutes ago

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, has hired a private practice attorney to defend her in the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

The Legislature is investigating whether Palin fired public safety commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

Smart move on her part. You should get a lawyer any time you're investigated...

This is starting to remind me of 1984 and the Geraldine Farraro fiasco.

It is a little soon to remind anyone of anything.

Correct. This is not political. This is legal. If you're under any kind of investigation and you don't have a lawyer, you're an idiot.

Ferraro fiasco? Palin has been a candidate for 78 hours or so. Anyone who sees Ferraro in this is looking for it through partisan lenses.

The story also says the state hired the attorney for Palin. No one mentioned in the story disputes that.

It appears the reporter got overly ambitious with his title. Nothing in his story validates the title.

We really don't need this kind of thing. Just let Gov. Palin stand on her record.

    Liberals can't allow that.

    Her record has been outstanding.

    No, it doesn't.

I think you are confused. The state hired an investigator for the state committee dominated by Republicans.

    Odd.

Another article with the same title written by the same guy appears here:

Palin hires attorney for Troopergate investigation By STEVE QUINN,

    Associated Press Writer
Mon Sep 1, 6:32 PM ET

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, is being represented by an attorney in the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

    SNIP

Tucker Eskew, a senior McCain adviser, said the state, not Palin herself, hired the attorney to represent her in her capacity as governor, and he has been working for several weeks.

I wonder why Google cut out that line. Some judicious editing, perhaps.;)

Or he posted the story I read a little later with his updated leadline and new info, but failed to change his now erroneous title.

Based on the information we now both have, my previous comment stands unrebutted.

Interesting that the story was changed.

Of course, it doesn't matter who hired the attorney. The crux of the matter is that Sarah Palin has an ethics issue that has to be resolved.

The concern among Republican leaders is what else may come out. There seems to be a drip, drip process going on.

No evidence exists that she has an ethics issue.

A politically motivated "investigation" frequently comes to nothing and it turns out the accusers have the ethics issue.

Is that all you have? A pregnant daughter and unproven politically motivated accusations?

Please tell me you have something concrete to smear her with.:BangHead:

So far, you're not doing so well.

It seemed to matter to you a few posts ago.

Guilty until proven innocent I suppose.

Who are these Republican leaders that are concerned? No there seems to be a smear process going on. Nothing more.

Please tell me, are we still in America? If so, what happened to innocent until proven guilty?
