Disturbing mental imagery aside, this is a serious question. Why, if indeed at all, would a spandex workout getup be considered immodest? I used to ride a bike in a full lycra bodysuit, I know what it shows and what it doesn't. Is it acceptable outerwear? If not, why?

Put little "tid-bits" in on occasion for some to chew on ewwy-gewwies. The ewwy-gewwies I know are "Ewwey gewwy yummy cheese stickā€¦$2.75" athttp://mtpleasant.edzone.net/~mphs/teachers/ktalbot/period2/14139/menu.html

Agree, the woman became known as Eve, for that is what Adam the Daddy decided his helper would be called. But he first called her woman for she came from man. Woman I would say is an honorable name. But he wanted to "brand" her and make her special, as this is his woman, and his only. It is Adam that named that beautiful little thing God gave to Him. Pretty smart fellow I would say for Evening (when things begin) is when the "woman" was made to become the "Mother of all the Living". There is no "Mother" without a "Daddy".

I use "woman" for in the beginning the "female" had no name. They were named Adam, so a distinction should be made for clarity, and understanding of the head and the body. Adam later on named the "woman", and then His wife, Eve; otherwise we would be saying, is supper on the table my little helper.

Believe it or not, this is not written to be sarcastic, but in love. Jesus Christ is the head of the Church, and the head of man, and the body is in the head. He loves us. The man is the head of the woman, she being the body, and she is in the head. We love our "woman". They Adam, the Body are in the Head, i.e. Christ Jesus. The Mother of all living, from the Head (Adam) is not the Mother of God (as the Catholic's like to say). The wife of the "head", and from the "head of the Body of man" is a vessel made to store, and to deliver. She cannot produce. The Word became flesh in Adam, as they were named. We come from God as Adam, and out of Adam's body came Adam. From Adam came the Word God of what He had made from the dust, i.e. Adam.

What do you do with Isaiah 20:2-3 "at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, 'Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet." And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot. Then the Lord said, "Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign..."

You mean Isaiah didn't wear a three piece suit?

He served God naked for three years as a sign. Yikes, that throws a monkey wrench into things, huh :tonofbricks:

Did the Lord call him to do a bad thing?

It was a sign of shame.

    3And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

4So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

5And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

God calls some people to do some things that he would never call others to do. That is the exception not the rule. This was especially true in the OT. He commanded the prophet Hosea to go and marry a harlot, but he didn't command me to do the same.
He commanded Ezekiel in the day that his wife died, not to mourn for her, but in the same day to arise and carry on his ministry. He doesn't put that burden on everyone.

Settle down, I am just tuggin on the chain a little bit.

Of course, having a set of do's and don'ts makes it so much easier to put God in our own little box. :)

I would suggest that we seriously think about the standards we hold to and where they come from. Can't anyone tell me whether it's wrong for me to wear spandex?

The more one desires and looks for a list of do's and don'ts the closer they become to being enslaved in legalistic bondage.

I just desire someone to explain where they get their standards for modest dress.

If you have a conviction regarding spandex then follow that...

If a lady has a conviction about wearing a dress over pants then she should follow that...

But let's not pretend that a Scriptural list of do's and don'ts exists. It doesn't.

If a list was required, Paul would have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to write one when he addressed the need for modesty.

The Holy Spirit...since the Bible doesn't give hemline lengths.

It does give fabric compositions...is spandex "two different kinds of thread?" :tongue3:

I have a conviction about wishy-washy pastors who teach wear what thou wilst shall be the whole of the law. But if you believe that the scriptures give no clear teaching on what is acceptable dress, then where do you get your standards? Where am I supposed to get a conviction from?
