A Spokane, Wash., newspaper has dropped "The Ethicist" column of New York Times writer Randy Cohen after an MSNBC investigation reported that he had donated money to the the liberal group MoveOn.org.
According to the New York Post, the Spokane Spokesman-Review was scheduled to run Cohen's nationally syndicated column in Sunday's editions, but dropped the idea after learning of the payments.
"It would by hypocritical of us to run an ethics column by a journalist in violation of our own ethics policy," Spokesman-Review editor Steven Smith wrote online.
"Had he been a Spokesman-Review staff member, he would have faced suspension, at least . . . So we're dropping the column. We'll look elsewhere for a publishable ethicist."
