Parts of USA PATRIOT Act ruled unconstitutional

Glad to see there is finally some opposition to the Reichstag Fire Decree-- err-- I mean the Patriot Act.

 

The similarities are frightening, aren't they?

 

Every case is different and so are the judges. Judges routinely grant search warrants based on fingerprints, as well as other forensic evidence at a crime scene.

When I see folks compare Bush's administration to Nazi's, I wonder...

How old are you. What was the highest grade you passed ? Where do you get your news ?

Please list the similarities between the two governments, if you will. Otherwise, I'll just assume you know nothing of which you speak.

 

Mind listing all those scary similarities ?

The parallels of the Reichstag Fire Decree:

A terrorist attack and national tragedy giving birth to a law that removes basic civil rights, using patriotism to try to gain acceptance of the law by the people.

I think the Reichstag Fire Decree is a fairly accurate parallel to the Patriot Act.

What I do not parallel:

-Nazis
-Communists
-Hitler
-Inside Job

 

Tell me the similarities or tell me what thread you have already explained them on and I will read them there. I think ya'll went out and smoked lunch. I have not done anything wrong and if the government wants to listen to my phone calls OK. they may be anyway. If it helps keep our nation safer I am all for it. I have not forgot 9/11. It seams to me a lot of people have.

 

Since you have done nothing wrong where does the government get the constitutional authority to listen?

 

I did not say they had the constitutional authority to listen. I said I did not care if they listened to me. If it would prevent another 9/11 I am all for it.

 

I am not willing to give up my freedoms just because someone in government tells me that they need this information in order to stop a possible terrorists attack.

If we lose our U.S. constitutional guarantees then al Qaeda has won.

 

They want to see my phone records, more power to them. Those records do not add to or take away from any freedoms afforded me under the constitution. I hope it helps them. I do not hold an anti-war stance that would restrain me form assisting the government in the war on terror.

 

I doubt the people of Germany forgot the Reichstag Fire either. Remembrance and fear of the Communist terrorists is what made the decree so acceptable amongst the people, even though it was so outrageously against their interests as a free people.

I would rather live under the threat of terrorism than have my rights taken from me. Once people give up their rights, it takes bloodshed to get them back.

 

I hold an anti-stay-the-Bush-course-stance-in-Iraq stance and it does not restrain me from assisting the government in the war with al Qaeda. The government should investigate anyone who has connections with al Qaeda.

 

Exactly my feelings, it seems they have American's willing to give away all if its freedom's and liberties while they sit over in the desert and watch it on the news. Then they tease us by releasing a video every now and then and watch us scatter like roaches when the lights go on.

The problems as I see it are the open borders and our willingness to legalize all the illegals that took advantage of them. We're trying to lock the barn after the wolves are in the chicken coop and sell the idea as, "but no more wolves can get in".

Bush went on the offence before he even considered a defence which doesn't make much sense to me. But he does have a large group of supporters saying, "I remember 9/11". I think we all remember 9/11 but do we really want to be held hostage by one day in our history? Why not 12/7/41???
