I have my own security I am a police officer I can take care of my home. What makes me mad is when people complain about the long lines in the airport because they do not want to be checked. They do not want to be inconvenience but when something happens they want to know why something was not done. They do not want to take anyone's rights away but people that are not citizens of the US do not have rights. It makes me mad when people do not want to offend anyone by so called profiling even though these are the types of people that are attacking us. It makes me mad when people say be considerate of the radical muslims when they want to kill the infidels. The founders of this nation did not know how things would be now. If people would get as upset about taking GOD out of school as they do about having someone check there phone calls may God would still be in school.
If people would get upset about the rights of victims instead of the rights of criminals things would be better.

The ignorance demonstrated by this statement is especially appalling coming from a person charged with enforcing the law and protecting and serving. You need a refresher..."We hold these truths to be self evident...that ALL men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights".

God has never left any school.

So you think a illegal alien has the same rights as you?
And you want to talk about ignorance?
Maybe you should ask the slaves if the people that wrote the words you quoted thought they had the same rights as them.

With a few notable exceptions, absolutely.
The words I quoted should mean something to you. This nation has not always lived up to the ideals of those words, but they absolutely should be our ideal.

So ladies & gentlemen, we see why Mississippi has a reputation for bubba cops who are as bad as any criminal. Apparently, they give anyone a badge in that state. Welcome to the new "old" South!

No, they didn't. But they did know how it was back then. Most if not all of the amendments in the Bill of Rights were written into the Constitution to address abuses by the British during the period before the American Revolution.

The problem for us is that we continually forget that with these rights come responsibilities to be vigilant and to take an active part in maintaining our country. I find it interesting that, with all the complaining about government intrusion into personal lives (e. g., taxes), so many are willing to renounce our hard-won freedoms for protection by the government (e. g., low voter turn-out). Talk about intrusion!!!

And for Bro. Curtis, here are the charges you asked for. The extreme secrecy of the Bush / Cheney White House and the demonization of their critics as being unpatriotic or anti-American border on fascism.

Why do you call me a criminal because I said I did not care if the government listened to my phone calls?
and you are the one that quoted a document written by Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson had 187 slaves. We know that because he kept meticulous hand-written records, which we still have. On January 14, 1774, after he inherited slaves from first his mother and then his father-in-law, Thomas Jefferson wrote his inventory of 187 slaves. In his last inventory, taken 50 years later in 1824, Thomas Jefferson also had 187 slaves. Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826 at the age of 83.

I am not saying this is wrong or right, but I bet he would not side with you. Terrorist do not have rights. A criminal should not have more rights than the victim.

I never called you a criminal. I said Mississippi has a reputation for cops who are as bad as any criminal. Rightly or wrongly, Mississippi is seen by many as a backward state, and its ranking in educational achievement backs this up.

I don't know you, but your words show either a lack of respect for human rights, or a vast ignorance, either of which is appalling for an officer of the law.

I already addressed the fact that we as a nation have not lived up to Jefferson's ideals, including Jefferson himself. But this is still the ideal of what we should stand for.

I didn't say they should. You didn't specify terrorists or criminals. You said non citizens have NO rights. That is just plain incorrect. In fact, even criminals DO have certain rights, although felony convictions can curtail some, such as right to privacy.

And very important is the presumption of innocence until shown to be guilty in a court of law.

I believe even terrorists have rights.

    :tonofbricks:

Timothy McVeigh was a terrorists, and he had rights. People are innocent until proven guilty, and innocent people have rights. I'm completely for that. It's sad that we have forgotten our values and are so willing to give up our rights because of fear.

These terrorists attacked our nation because they didn't like us. They didn't like our freedoms. They didn't like our values. We respond by scraping away those very things they despise in an effort to defeat them??? With this tactic, we are the ones that are losing: the people of the United States.

That's just wrong. But, just to try and play, would that make the Clintons facists ?

Maybe it's time to put Neil Young down, and get into some real history. But hey, it's a lot easier to listen to him tell you how it is, than to find out for yourself.

Oh yeah, are there any folks who Bush has tattoo'ed ? You know, with numbers and stuff ?

I'm sorry, but even when I channel my most burnt-out hippy stoner personna, I can't make the jump between Bush & Hitler. And I believe very few rational people can.

I don't think so. The abuses of power that they were engaged in were different.

When all else fails, attack the Canadian. I thought my comments about the Bill of Rights fit into the category of "real history". In any case, Neil Young is part of the heritage I grew up with, but so are Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, the Four Freshmen, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Will Campbell, Clarence Jordan, James William McClendon, Jr., Paul Tillich, Stanley Hauerwas, Wendell Berry, J. S. Bach, G. F. Handel, P. I. Tchaikovsky, Sacred Harp singing, et al. I could include quotes from all of them in my signature, but that would be a little much.

Im sorry. This comment is quite HILARIOUS!

What if the government is already listening to you without your knowledge?

Anyway, I do not believe the government of the US has some ulterior motive trying to listen in on my phone calls just so they can collect information such as what I like on my pizza or the latest in the saga that is my mother's health.

I dont know about the other person who posted about being in law enforcement, but I too, work in law enforcement in the military and even I know that anyone standing on US soil is entitled to the rights and protections of the US constitution. However I feel about it, does not matter.

The point of all of this is, the government still can do the things they want to do, need to do, or have to do when the first priority is the security of the nation. They just have a heck of a time prosecuting you for whatever they uncover if it is not terror related.

I have been all of this nation, and several foriegn countries throughout the world and so far, never met an American who has had their rights removed due to the Patriot Act.

Taking off your shoes at the airport isnt sacrificing freedom. As long as it is fair across the board, it prevents a person with a shoe bomb from getting on my flight. Im good with that.

Rape & intimidation of witnesses. Yup, they were different, allright.

    "Jesus, I saw you
    walking on the river
    I don't believe you
    You can't deliver, right away
    I wonder why
Jesus, your eyes shine like the sun
    I wonder why"

    Neil Young

Even though I like his music, and have enjoyed his concerts, he's no quote qorthy role model. His political views are that of any ill-informed pot-smokin' hippy.
