I say put him on the tarmac, away from everything, and let him practice with the explosives until they do work.

May the Holy Spirit enlighten this man from Nigeria to the Truth and bring him to Jesus through repentance and faith.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has been charged in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in the bomb attack attempt. Read the criminal complaint.

Typical stretch. He boarded in Amsterdam, not at the US Capitol.

I guess it is the Democrats fault if your car doesn't start in the morning though.

The charge in the criminal complaint has a maximum sentence of 20 years, but I wouldn't be shocked if more charges are added when the case goes to the grand jury and the Defendant gets indicted.

I think you're right. What I was getting at is that if there is an ongoing investigation like this, often Federal prosecutors will file one charge via criminal complaint while they investigate the case, then add other charges to the indictment when they present the case to a grand jury.

I will be really interested in finding out how this could have happened. How did they miss the explosive stuff? And how did they not capture his name from the "watch list"? My fear is that TSA workers, overwhelmed with thousands of people, all of whom seem to pass through with no issues, eventually get lazy, disconnected, or bored, and just do not pay attention. No security system is any better than the people who staff it.

I rejoiced when I heard of the vigilance of the passengers.

The security in non-US locales is really the weak link in our air travel issues. It is, sadly, the logical place to plan and execute a dastardly plan.

I wonder how many "democrats" failed to act when the whole event existed outside the United States? Seems a non sequitor and red herring...but the norm around here...

There is one of two scenarios.

One: This guy used substances that are currently banned. If that's the case, find the TSA idiot that let him through, fire them, and maybe put them in the joint for a while. Make an example of them.

Two: This guy used substances that were not yet banned. Obviously the explosive thing's a crime...but maybe he used substances that were not yet known to be available, combinable, etc. The TSA still oughta be concerned about not being "ahead of the curve," but it disturbs me less than out and out incompetence.

So far, I haven't seen anything specifically about what he used. But you know what this means:

    • When Richard Reid (or whatever his Wahabi terrorist name is) used a shoe, more delays as everyone's shoes were removed.
    • When the "liquid explosive" plot was foiled, everyone had to start the "three ounces in a ziploc bag" routine...more delays.
    • You know this will cause more delys and an even bigger hassle just to fly.
Years ago, I would fly if my drive were more than five hours. Now, I'd much rather endure a 10-12 hour drive, than bother flying.
