(Reuters) Mel Gibson remained the top draw at the box office as the filmmaker's controversial movie, "The Passion of the Christ," topped ticket sales with an estimated haul of $51.4 million in its second weekend, its distributor said on Sunday.

After 12 days in release, the gritty recount of the last 12 hours of Christ's life has soared to $212 million. Some rival studios said the $51.4 million estimate could be a little conservative, and the number could be higher when final data are released on Monday. Such was the case last week, when weekend sales turned out to be $83.9 million, about $7.7 million above the estimate.

    Well done, Mel!

This movie will be much higher than #48 by the time it runs its course.

It will undoubtedly become the top-grossing 'R' rated film in history.

The overwhelming majority of Protestants who've seen it are very approving. The naysayers are just nit-picking.

Thats a little judgemental, don't you think?

And lets not forget that the numbers are highly padded due to huge block sales.

    Greg,

I had someone ask my view today since the movie will be out here next week. They really did not want to hear my view but wanted me to agree with them.

You know what, if you don't pick nits when they show up, pretty soon your head is infected with lice.

OH! They are bringing Hippie Jesus back for a replay? No thanks. "hit" miniseries just doesn't quite describe my memory of this joke.

I don't even remember this miniseries.

The History Channel regularly airs "Jesus of Nazareth," which is my pick of the litter. Look for it at a Pascha near you.
