The way you win them will be the way you keep them. If you have to entertain them to get them in, you will have to "wow" them to keep them.

There is nothing wrong with churches reaching people with the gospel. In fact that is exactly what they should be doing. There are many IFB churches that are growing in number. But to compromise in order to get them in the door is very wrong.

Heard from a friend that the church he has been attending has a "Texas Holdem" every now and then to draw people in, as well as a secular Music concert once a year.

He also observed that they come to church in the same clothes they wore to the bar the night before, and that they can do many of the things they do the night before, in church. I added that they have the same music too and he just grinned in agreement.  [IMG]

His pastor has observed that the church is loosing people over fifty, but the church doesn't have enough money to hire someone to minister to that age group - they have 25 full time staff but the staff decided they can't afford one to minister to the older folks.

I observed that the present staff has also decided they won't minister to that segment of the church.

I also observed that they also decided that God doesn't want that segment ministered too and that He can't afford someone else to do it.

    One question

Explain to me your reasoning behind not accepting divorced men.....

    Matthew 19:9
Is clear to me how about you ??
But, only for fornication should a divorce be granted thats what Christ said.

So if a man is divorced for that reason did he sin and if remarried did he sin ? No.

1 Tim 3:2 is also clear but if divorced because of fornication then Matthew 19:9 supports that divorce and if the Bible supports it why dont you. So you are the husband of no wife if divorced for fornication and if remarried then that is your only wife if divorced for fornication and remarried again Matthew 19:9

BUT, if you divorce and remarry and the divorce was for another reason then you commit adultery by being remarried and therefore you dont fit the standards that 1 Tim. 3 set

Furthermore 1 Tim. 3:2 and 3 clearly states
    2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

    3Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

Oh I cant love money, be inpatient,be a drunk, fight, or want other peoples things well that just eliminates 99% of the world....OR could Paul be saying this to Christians, people that are saved, or the lost which do you think he is telling this to.....If Paul means this to all people then no one is qualified to be a preacher, elder, or deacon.

I'll leave you with a question or three
    1. If I murdered and then was saved and God called me to Preach could I ?

    2. If I am a Drunk and then was saved and God called me to Preach could I ?

    3. If I was lost or saved and I divorced my wife because of Fornication and God called me to preach could I ?

Rev. Lowery makes an interesting point. It is amazing to me how "IFB" have all sorts of interesting "private interpretations" of scripture. Somewhere along the line, some high-falluting self-righteous preacher who had been BLESSED by the grace of God not to marry an adultress and abandoning woman, decided that the Bible clearly said that if you were cuckolded by your wife and deserted, you were no longer fit for the ministry. Thank God, though, that he, with his judgemental, holy mind...who has obviously been holy enough to never lust after another woman, has KEPT HIMSELF fit for the ministry! It is absolutely rediculous. I am sorry, it is. If the truth be told, every single stinking filthy one of us with our run away sinful brains should be in HELL, let alone out of the ministry for "joining" ourselves to harlots! It is always EASY to sit in the seat of the scornfull and tisk-tisk at other folks misfortunes and wrest scripture to disqualify them! Watch out folks...we will answer to God for those things done in the body (and the mind)...Judge not, lest ye be judged with the SAME MEASURE wherewith ye judge another!

May God have mercy on us all for our narrow minded ridiculous garbage we PEDDLE as Bible Truth!

In the baptist only part of the forums I was told I was here to cause trouble that this subject only causes division.
If that be the case then someone is wrong either the churches view or the Word of God now which do we think is wrong..

Plz e-mail me with other boards you think are bible based and not denominational or doctrinally controlled.
This will be my last post here

    Dear Rev.Lowery,
You appear to be as one who holds a private interpretation of the concept of following established rules and posting guidelines.

I have attempted to contact you via email and private message and you have not responded to my inquiries.

I can only conclude that you only desire to stir trouble on the BaptistBoard.

It is interesting to me the double standards that exist on this board! I, and many others I am sure, take exception and offense at your condescending and insulting humor. I must apologize sir, for my stupidity.

I am sorry that I actually believe that God PRESERVED his VERY WORDS and not his vague and obscure IDEAS.

I am sorry that, in my utter stupidity, I do not trust your unregenerate sodomites from England who, while "faithfully" translating your MV base text from "faithful" Alexandrian perversion, were busy DENYING EVERY MAJOR TENANT of Biblical Doctrine in separate correspondence.

I am sorry that I am so stupid as to accept a text which has begun EVERY SINGLE major revival on this continent.

I am eternally sorry that my intellect is so narrow as to not use "versions" of the bible which have no power when read, or authority when preached.

Please, sir, I do understand the many problems of the AV. I know it does not allow for one to coddle his sin, it does not condone compromise, and it is so narrow as to be offensive and convicting to the human heart when preached. I also understand that it is basically an unreadable bunch of mush to the unregenerate mind, and that is its greatest downfall among the INTELLIGENT, and LEARNED scholars of our day.

I am so sorry for my stupidity and lack of learning, yet, because you are not God, and He is, I must insist to persist. Pardon me!

Tell us how you really feel!

Seriously, I hold to the KJV as well. I do have a question however that I always wanted to ask someone more learned than me. If we believe that the KJV is translated from the correct Greek text (either the TR or what is called the Majority Texts), and if the KJV is the only one as such, if we had a reliable translation in our modern day English translated faithfully and scholarly from those texts, would we accept it? Or do we believe the Ruckman theory of double inspiration? Or do we believe that the translators of the KJV were inspired in the same sense that the original authors were?

I think this is a fair question. It is not intended to discredit my position as a KJV supporter or to cause division.

This is not a translation thread folks. Please carry any further translations debate over to our Bible Versions and Translation Forum.

I would be happy to talk about that...it is a fair question...but we stand admonished. It is OK to insult peoples intelligence, OFF TOPIC, as long as you are BENT in the right theological direction. We are not.

As far as "how I feel", I just get tired of the condescending "learned" insults which continually come from certain quarters...that is really all I was trying to say.

Let's start a topic?? Or should we keep it private, I really don't want to chuck pearls and receive pigslop in return on this subject. IYKWIM.

I suppose I don't need to give you a report card. Again. I did not open the ball with an off-topic, condescending, cruel, in-the-flesh insult. I did take offense to it. You have an interesting way of turning the tables and bringing in a little nicolaitan piety. I don't need to put on airs. I am not ashamed to call attention to a manure spreader when I smell one. Christ did the same...you have no right to judge my motives or the fruit of my life, Sir. Again...you arn't keeping score, I will trust the ONE who is. Please save your pious insults.

If you must know, however, I am busy teaching others to Preach and Teach. I do not miss soulwinning, or any other Church function, unless I am working...and as far as I know I am trying to quit the throne. It's a big job, best get to it.

Its really a shame that we who love the Lord and desire to be used of Him will attack each other personally over an issue such as this. We all have our convictions. We will all individually stand before the Judgment Seat and give account. We all (I hope) believe in the soul loberty of the individual. Having said that, lets talk about the bigger issues and leave the battle for Satan.
