    Try also www.bakerbooks.com

I truly think that every pastor should read selected puritan literature! I myself collect them, in fact I like them so much that I actually hunt them [IMG]

Which publisher would you say is your favorite?
For start I would go with:
    Banner of Truth
    Soli Deo Gloria

    Yours in Christ

Amen! Love "Banner of Truth" material.

Does RC Sproul print his own material with Ligoneir Ministries? If so, that would be good to consider as a publisher.

Also John Piper and John MacArthur as contemporary writers worthy of reading.

Here is the best starter library:

Anything by warren wiersbe (especially the books from his "BE" series), Willmington's guide to the Bible, and though it is hard to find there are two books by Roy Branson that every Pastor should read at least once (Dear Preacher, Please Quit) & (Most Christians don't know what every Christian should know).

These will add to your knowledge and skill vastly as well as affirm your calling (something very important these days). [IMG]

For a free (read it again...FREE) Bible-study software package, go to www.e-sword.net

Download the reader program (it includes KJV w/Stong's numbers, Strong's, search engine, etc.). You then can choose from MANY, MANY downloadable modules (Bible translation {NASB will cost $20, payable to the Lockman Foundation}, commentaries, dictionaries, devotionals, maps, etc.)

So far, I have the ASV, Jamieson Fausset& Brown, Thayer's, Barnes' Notes, Vincent's Word Studies, Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge, Robertson's Word Pictures. And I haven't even downloaded a third (gotta hate dial-up).

    Hope everyone finds this useful.

If anyone is into Theological journals that can get a bit technical at times, try Bibliotheca Sacra, published by Dallas Theological Seminary.

You won't always agree with the writers, but that's OK, we need to be able to think about things.

Here are the immediate suggestions that I wish I knew of when I first started my collection (it would have spared me from buying a bunch of the fluff authors).

    1. Theological journals. These are critical. Of course you will not always agree. That is not the point. When you study a passage, you will inevitably see it within a certain theological framework. You might not think of how someone else takes. It will also strenghthen your own position if you still think you are right.

A couple of them that I really enjoy are:

Council of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
Southern Baptist Seminary Journal of Theology
    Bibliotheca Sacra
    Trinity Journal
    Master's Seminary Journal
    Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary Journal

These are all top-notch theological journals.

    2. Anything by John Piper or John MacArthur. These are written from the Pastor-as-theologian perspective. Therefore, you won't just get the technical stuff.

Start with this stuff and you will see which kind of commentaries to buy. Enjoy.

Oh, if you check out www.sbts.edu and www.dbts.edu, you will see that they have each produced a list of must have commentaries and theological workbooks.
