I find it amazing that a man will feel called by God to Pastor a church. The things we demmand of our pastors are incredible.
When most churches do call a pastor church they check him out.Where did he go to college? What degrees does he hold.Is he blameless? What is his past experience? What are his views as to pastoral duties? How will his wife be involved in the church ministry? What are his views on visitation? How does he counsel and what types of counseling is he trained in?And many more questions depending on the church.

For all of this the pastor many times must get a job to support his family (he is bi-vocational)if he is not bi-vocational generally his salary is modest to fair. Out of his alary of course he will tithe and make offerings of many different kinds(bus ministry, missions, building program,ect..).He will also generally be subject to all kinds of critisism, church politics, and be pulled in many directions.

For a man to be a Pastor he must truly be called of God.Church members should do thier part by loving and praying for thier Pastor. When our Pastor ask us to do something in our church we ought to do our best to comply if it is within our power. The Pastor should not be required to do all of the visitation at minimum the deacons should be doing visitation. All members of the church should be witnessing to the unsaved. The general membership should be responsible for church growth. The general membership should be responsible for the health of church finances. As the Pastor should look after the welfare and well being of the flock, the flock should look after ther wellbeing of the Pastor and his family.

If we have a good Pastor we should thank God for him.If our Pastor needs help we should help him.If we want our Pastor to be trained in some feild he is not strong in then we should provide the avenue for him to get the training at the churches expense.

Give your Pastor a hug.Love your Pastor. Lift him up in prayer daily before God. Treat him fairly.

I did not mean to rambele on so. I jusst had to get that off of my chest. All Pastors little encouragement from time to time.

    Plain Old Bill,

Thank you for your wonderful heart. Your pastor is a blessed man. I have several in my church who have the same heart that you have. I am blessed and priviledged to be a pastor, and every once in a while the Lord does something marvelous through His people to remind me of that.

I have been a Pastor and now that I am physically challenged I would hesitate to do it. It takes SO MUCH ENERGY AND TIME to do the ministry God has called us to do.

Difficult to do right. And no pastor is EVER satisfied. Worst slave drivers are our own incompetence and guilt; we KNOW what we are like and yet we have to hold forth a message that is so awesome and powerful when we are so weak.

Geeee DR. Bob, What an inspiration to a guy who is candidating for his first pastoral position... Problem is, I have a burning drive to pastor. I really do not believe I have a choice. God calls a man to pastor and I cannot say He offered me a different option.

Despite the challenges of pastoral ministry, we must remember what the Lord told Paul as he was dealing with his own personal trials...."My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakenss." If only by the grace of God that we can be faithful to our calling. [IMG]

Oh, don't listen to me! I'm a little crochety some days. It is just that you need to go into the pastoral ministry "eyes wide open".

I would not want to hinder you one iota from the call God has given you. I surrendered to preach at age 15 and never looked back. It is a high and holy calling of God.

Oh yes... I have been around here long enough to hear about some of the trials... And I served as intern for 2 years in a difficult situation. God provides the training and the strength to get through all that will be thrown at us. We just have to remember that it is all by His power and His glory, I think...
