A brief consideration of Joseph in the O.T. would show us a principle of where it was he had an earing: in Egypt.

Joseph was a type of Christ in many places and situations, but I don't think his being second only to pharaoh would qualify him as a type of Christ.

So g'head and cast your stones, I'm starting to get used to it here on BB!

actually, the earring in american popculture began in england. The "punk rockers" began doing it along with spikey hair, wild colors in the doo and finally mohawks etc.. However, like driving, the english did it in the right ear and americans did it in the left ear. The homosexuals went for the opposite ear to show their twist and took the hair stuff too.

I did mine in early 1985 just about the same time I came to the Lord. I believe this is more of a social norm issue.

Even though there really isn't anything wrong with a pastor wearing an earring, it can be distracting to a lot of people. I don't notice usually, but my husband does, and it bothers him and disrupts his worship experience. This past weekend, we were visiting family who happen to be Catholic and went to church with them. One of the priests had an earring, and my husband just could not get his focus off of that the entire time we were there. So, I think pastors just need to remember that it can be a distraction to some people, and they should act accordingly.

I feel the same way when pastors wear suits and ties. I tend to look at the fit, the tie, how they match (and don't). It is distracting.

Wouldnt modest dress and not drawing unneeded attention to one's self fall into this?

Sounds like the cigar that was painted over in the portrait of B. H. Carroll at SWBTS.

I visited a woman at her home a few hours after the service and she told of how she decided to start attending a church and so she went to the Nazarene church on the corner just down the street from her. They would not let her in because she wore pants and had hair that was too short to suit them. I led her to Christ that afternoon.

A promiscuous man would not to be seen wearing a wedding ring. A man who honors his wife would want a ring that is easily seen.

I witnessed it last weekend when I visited a non-denominational church.

Yeah, you could. That is why earrings were chosen.

Maybe the Anglican Churches have a point when they built the pulpit up stairs and well hidden from the people. Sometimes one had to stand on toes to get shoulders over the top.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Note: I wear a Geneva gown when preaching. My granddaughter was visiting. When she went home to Green Bay, she told the neigbours that her grandfather wears dresses. They didn't ask. I found out the next summer when the neighbours told me what she had said. They understood when wife told them I was a minister......So, I guess anything on a preacher is up for grabs.

Oh. Hahaha. I thought you meant visiting in a church where everyone was tearing apart someone's clothing.

I dont see the point of this, a wedding ring is not something that would draw unneeded attention to oneself, where a earring will.

You haven't been overseas where women are looking for men, with and without rings, huh?
