Antiwar.com: Bunch of hate-mongers. Who cares what they think. Isn't this home of Justin Raimondo who tried to blame Israel and the Jews for 9-11?

Mr. Roberts' columns are published widely. I just happened to link to the antiwar.com site as that was the first place I came across it.

I visit antiwar.com every now and then to see what is being said.

Paul Craig Roberts seems to be a hate filled hack, with absolutely no conscience. His hate filled rhetoric should have no place here.

There is speculation about the current administration's effort's to concentrate power into the executive branch.

I've even heard that that should be the real concern about Alito - that he has consistently ruled in favor of the executive branch over the legislative. I don't know if this will be addressed at the hearing or not, but perhaps it should be.

The Democrats are desperate for an issue. They want to execute anyone who knew about Joe Wilson's wife being a file clerk at the CIA but when the NY Times exposes a secret anti-terror government activity the Democrats want to give Bush the death penalty for fighting against our dear Islamofascist friends.

Power grabs by the executive branch is traditionally a conservative issue, but they seem to have abandonned this cause.

Well, that's just absurd...to want to execute anyone who "knew" something not true or factual.

The Democrats don't want to execute Bush - most of them, anyway - so much as investigate possible illegal activity. If Bush has engaged in or authorized illegal activity, a significant portion of the Democrats, and possibly of Republicans, too, may want to impeach him.

Do you think it would theoretically be ok if a president should authorize illegal, anti-American acts if it fights Islamists?

While there are still some conservatives in the GOP, Daisy, it is clear that the GOP as a whole is no longer a conservative party in regards to its views toward government power.

I see his rhetoric as being no more hate filled than the rhetoric I read on this board toward Palestinians and Muslims.

So any loss of our constitutional rights is OK during war? That wouldn't be as bad except the war against terrorism will never end.

BTW, trashing the CIA is a no-no for a good far right wing extremist. Oh, maybe you should answer that knock at your door.

The followers of Islam are trying to kill us and our children unless we join them. P.C. Roberts is just a confused man, deceiving many.

    Daisy,

Do you think it would theoretically be ok if a president should authorize illegal, anti-American acts if it fights Islamists?

An excellent question, but I'm curious of your definition of anti-American. A curious word for a liberal to be using, BTW.

    Ken,

I see his rhetoric as being no more hate filled than the rhetoric I read on this board toward Palestinians and Muslims.

What's with the recent amour toward Palestinians and Muslims? I despise terrorists of whatever background. The current crop seems rather dominated by the latter, though, as does Palestinian leadership of the not too distant past.

    SAN,

So any loss of our constitutional rights is OK during war? That wouldn't be as bad except the war against terrorism will never end.

An interesting question. First of all, no one said any loss of our constitutional rights. But I would agree that yes, some loss is perfectly reasonable, safe, and wise. And I think the question is perhaps more interesting that you intended. If the war against terrorism never ends (and let's not forget that the reason for that is that is likely because their war against us never ends), should we wisely be prepared to make such sacrifice in the interest of combatting such an enemy? Not that I like or want to give up such rights or want to expand government powers (despite Ken's readiness to so label current conservative Republicans), but I think it wise to in fact be at least asking such a question.

And you actually believe this? Amazing.

While there may be some fanatic Moslems like that, most followers of Islam are just people who want to live normal lives. Most Christians are not fanatical evangelists, neither are most Moslems.

Can it be said that the West, the US in particular, is willing to kill Iraqis and their children unless they join in democracy? That's what is actually happening there (now that we are no longer using WMDs as an excuse). From the coalition's POV, the death and maiming of the children is simply a regretable, albeit predictable, consequence of war, but the parents and siblings may not view those deaths as philosophically.

Or he is a clear-eyed realist, undeceived by Islamophobes.

    Bring it on.

The left just cannot get it through their thick skulls that the more partisan and nasty they get, the more it only backfires on them.

Like the old saying goes, never interrupt your enemy while he's busy defeating himself.

I'm particularly fond of the Bill of Rights portion of the Constitution, so whatever abrogates those rights is anti-American.
