It really doesn't seem right that the federal government can pass a law that forces cities to have to do this .

The signs in NYC may only last 10 years, but that's not the case, everywhere. This couldn't hit at a worse time.

Remember, this was Bush & a G.O.P. congress that signed this into law.

Seems like a complete waste of time and money. Sheesh. You'd think they have more important things to do.

D's and R's both--they must justify their existence. They do so by meddling. Why? It's all they know to do.

Most of them really aren't necessary--so they invent reasons to be...by meddling; coming up with stupid and inane rules/regs; and generally harrassing their "subjects."

If they were honest with themselves (few of them have that capability), they would realize that if 75% of goverment bureaucrats were forced out of their jobs and into the private sector for some "real" employement, our country would be better off.

Won't happen, though. They've deluded themselves into thinking that civilization would collapse if they didn't change fonts on signs.

I deal with enough idiots in the private sector each day. Please, don't give them any ideas!

The irony is, that NYC recently put up larger signs that hang from the traffic lights (over the actual lanes), similar to what many other areas like the south and southwest have. And these are in lowercase, (but in the old "Interstate" font).

Those would be more what the drivers use, so the smaller signs on the lampposts should not be as much of an issue. (This reminds me of when mayor Koch desided to get ride of the old borough sign colrs, and make them all green, like other places, because it was supposedly more visible as well. But other places continue to use other colors. the colors were good to know when you crossed into another borough).

This is they type of waste and pet regulation people should be paying more attention to, and not just programs. (And since it's a new font too, that will be some company getting a cut off of this as well).
