    "Assuming it is McCain vs. Hillary in November, he is the obvious favorite.

    McCain's appeal to independents and to less-partisan Democrats makes him very formidable in the November election. In such a race, it is difficult to see Hillary carrying states Kerry couldn't, and McCain would put many Democratic states in play.

    But should the Republicans nominate someone else, then the status of the war in Iraq, any other subsequent foreign-policy crisis or an economic problem could give the Democrats a chance to regain the White House.

    Hillary's strong negatives among non-Democrats make it less likely she could prevail against a non-McCain Republican. One of the fresh faces would probably do better.

    However, a race without McCain and with the advent of sky-high inflation and unemployment or perhaps an international crisis or embarrassment could make anything possible. Even Hillary."

    McCain, who has infuriated Bush and many neocons with his candor, is highly unlikely to be nominated, unless there is a coup in the republican party politburo.

    Bush has loyalists in every position.

    And McCain's honorable service is a stinging rebuke to Bush's lack of patriotism.

    Can anyone criticize President Bush without you calling him/her a "Bush Hater" or in your world is no criticism of Emperor, I mean President, Bush ever allowed?
