Petra is the Darrel Waltrip of rock and roll: great in their time, but should have hung it up ten years sooner.

The band will release a statement on Thursday to let the world know that they will be putting an end to the madness, once and for all.

bummer...i just found Petra's "Beyond Belief" CD at a goodwill store and have been headbanging to it in my care all week! I'm sure my older church members would love to see their pastor doing that, lol!

I was just listening to a little of their new album on their website, Bob Hartman still rocks!

The only thing I knew by them was "God Pleaser" which a guy in a Bible study group in the Air Force used to play all the time. Fit the music debate pretty well!

I loved their music, and "On Fire" was the first Christian album I ever brought, I am sad to see them go, yet what you can be well sure of is that they brought many many people to the Lord throughout their ministry.

    That's an unbelievable attitude.

I'm thankful Petra didn't let people like you keep them from presenting the gospel across the globe for more than 30 years. God has used them in a mighty way. I'm thankful for what He did through them.

I saw them in Concert once or twice back when they were still good. I grew up with their music and enjoyed them, but after Beyond Belief, they just honestly ceased to be Petra anyway and went on to be this Frankenstein creation of the Christian Music Producers. Hopefully, they will each find something else to do and find themselves again. I, for one, wish to remember the good times, and not dwell on the past 10 years or so. It is really a relief to see an end to the suffering.

I saw Petra at the SonShine music festival in MN back in 1992...and they rocked. Although that was also the first time i saw the Newsboys too; who i have to admit had a little more entertaining show.
All in all though, Petra laid a lot of ground for many of today's Christian groups and Bob Hartman is one of the greatest guitar players in Christian music.

Is Petra's original lead singer Greg X Volz still going in the U.S?

I don't believe so. I think he does a show here or there at small churches and retreats and things, but I don't believe so.

Of course, I could be wrong.

To be really honest, I always prefered him over John Schlitt.

Wow...I'm certainly going to miss getting new Petra albums to listen to while I'm playing my Atari 2600.
