Since I'm already on a roll with getting people to love me today I may as well continue and let the love fest go on unfettered! [IMG]
I picked fundamental Christianity based on my experiences with different IFB churches. My reasoning is because the other beliefs are false and it is easy to show they are false. A church that bases itself and claims to be based on the bible and then twists or abuses those beliefs and scriptures is much harder to show false, and once you realize there IS falseness going on your view of Christianity is skewed and you're more likely to turn to a false belief system for answers since your faith in the true one is shaken.
Any messed up version of truth is ten times more dangerous than a completely false version. It's much easier to see the truth when it's sitting apart on it's own than when it's all bunched up together with falsehoods.
I'm still in an IFB church btw, but it's one of the good ones. [IMG]

Say "oh" all you want. As of now "fundamental Christianity" is leading the "cult" vote, and rightfully so.

I voted charismatic. Not because I have anything against the mainstream charismatic movement - as you know, I am no cessationist - but I have in mind the more extreme versions - WoF, Toronto, Benny Hinn, heavy shepherding. Some forms of fundamentalism would come a close second in so far as they display the abusive and manipulative structures and doctrines of the above groups

    Yours in Christ

I will admit that there are IFB churches with problems but problems exist within the wider evangelical community as well. Anytime sinful man is involved, you will have problems of human origin. You may not agree with the philosophy behind Biblical Fundamentalism but, honestly, it is preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ. That is not cultish and that is not damaging. There are false religions on this poll that bind millions of people into spiritual bondage leading to eternal torment but because some IFB pastors are dictators or say ladies can’t wear pants, that warrants picking Fundamental Christianity over Islam or Hinduism as the most damaging or cultish religion?????

Le me explain. I have nothing against many "fundamentalist" Churches. Many, if not most are Christ honoring Churches that do the work of the ministry.

However, when I picked "fundamental Christian," I was referring to churches that have gone off the edge, maybe they should be called hyper-fundamentalist. These are Churches that are militant "KJV only," and the like. There are even "fundamental" churches that protest at homosexual funerals, such as Rev. Phelps (website Godhatesfages.com).

I can't believe that 6 people actually voted for the Catholic church. They're in no way a "cult."

I think damaging and cultish should have been separated so I could have voted for more than one. It was very hard to choose. I voted for most damage potential.

I wanted to add: I think you should have included Mormons and made the poll... Most damaging to Christianity or Christian churches. From what I've read, the majority of new converts to LDS is from Baptist churches. However, based on what you gave us, I voted for the denomination that I think does most damage to Christianity and I did not vote for IFB churches. (I'm SBC) [IMG]

Doesn't say "cult". Says "cultish religion" of which Roman Catholicism would most certainly lead the way.

And with 1 billion + in Catholicism, it is the most pervasive of all choices.

I voted Catholic and was the first person to vote in the poll.

It does not bother me in the least. I can show you what I believe, but if you chose to ignore it then that is fine with me. Besides Since you are a Catholic you do not need to be posting on this general discussion forum. [IMG]

I'm not Catholic - I'm Southern Baptist. I've seen what you believe and I do not ignore it at all. Much of what you believe is factually and theologically incorrect. Calling the Catholic faith the "great whore" is one of those parts of your doctrine which I feel is doctrinally incorrect. Many Catholics who I personally know profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, so i question how you can categorically say that they are "anti-Christian."

    Scott, Have you tired valium?

The Catholics do not belive in the doctrines of the bible. The list is so long, but here are a few tidbits. They believe the pope is Christ here on earth. They believe not in the priesthood of the belivers. They believe that Mary was a virgin her whole life. They worship Mary. They believe the wine is the actual blood of Christ and the bread is the real actual body of Christ. You need more. They are religious, but not christian. There may be even a few who are saved in the catholic church, but they want stay there long once they know.
